Personally I like some tattoos (well done ones that aren't trashy - trashy i.e. naked women/pinups, those cleavage tattoos, any serial killer or murderer). I will probably never get any though because I don't even know what I'd get. I have some I like the idea of (the simple Aquarius symbol, Majora's mask, this one quote from Watership Down), but I don't know if any of it is something I care about enough to dump on my body, yaknow. It's a big investment and decision.

I got a board warning for joking about tattoos being ugly.

Love the double standards here.

how does one know if they got a board warning?

i have a stick and poke spider on my hip and i wouldn't want to date a person who thinks it was a stupid decision or makes me uglier anyways, so that works out. the pain is an important part of it for me as well.
i'm in no rush to get more tattoos but this will likely not be my only one.

i've also dated people with tats i don't particularly like/would never get myself. good thing i don't own their skin. i don't mind having different views with someone i like enough to date so long as there is mutual respect.

I had to LOL at all the judgmental people in this thread calling them all 100% gross, ugly, gendered and stupid and then claiming they aren't being judgmental. No self-awareness whatsoever. Typical of this forum, sadly.

This is part of the reason so many of you struggle romantically. People here only seem to be looking for an echo chamber to reinforce their stringent opinions rather than actually improve their attitudes.

Being a judgmental jerk is way more unattractive than being socially awkward, kiddos.

TRUTH BOMB!

I can't believe I'm bumping this thread but I'm just here because I hope XFG or Kip locks it. OP should read some of my friends' arms one day.

I tend to agree. I am drawn to an innocent, spontaneously-cute appearance in people (especially girls), and there are very, very few tattoos that can enhance that look. I'm an artsy person in many ways, but I have seen very few tattoos that I like.

 Subjectivity bomb!

I have no tatoos, probably half my friends do though & I have a lot of reasons to get some done. These aren't limited to the cliché you're obviously referencing so what's up with dissing people you haven't met?

I've been strongly considering some code-based ink on a finger or 2 to remind me how much work I put towards not doing that.

I disagree, I like tattoos a lot, anything bio-mechanical, Japanese-inspired, nature inspired, watercolour ones...

I haven't got any, but only because I don't like the ageing of some colours on skin and then to keep it nice looking you need to have it re-done in some places. I also don't think lines are fine enough and when let's say arm expands a little/stretches with age, lines become a bit blurry and thick and I wouldn't like that on me.

I like tattoos my younger brother and sister both have tattoos and I think they got pretty cool ones. I don't have any, I am not against it, if I ever thought of something I'd like to get done I would. So I more just admire them on other people then getting them myself...I see it as a pretty cool form of art and self expression. I just have not found anything I necessarily want a tattoo of.

Yeah but ow. 8O

Nope I'm wanting some codices & planning on designing them some concrete forms. Nothing goes on until it's both computationally valid & human-legible.

I disagree with the OP and take exception with the definitive nature of the post. It should read "I think tattoos are ____ ugly". Stating opinion as if it is fact is extremely hurtful and, incorrect. YOU may not like tattoos but many people do and YOUR opinion is no more (or less) valuable or correct than anyone elses; it is just OPINION though. Remember that this is a forum for people who are ROUTINELY minimized by other. For people who have "weird" or uncommon interests. Making insulting, vitriolic, curse riddled declarations denigrating the way some people choose to decorate THEIR bodies (not YOUR body), or hobbies, or passions puts on display a disturbing ease and willingness for one to sub-humanize the "other". I personally find the language of this post unacceptable.

Tattoos are not ugly, wholesale attacks on people's dignity and individuality are ugly... In a deep, existential way that cannot be removed even by a high-powered laser. I am POSITIVE there are ways the OP chooses to ornate themselves that others may find visually displeasing. I implore the OP to consider how they would feel if, without any provocation, a style they "love" or have even come to feel is a part of their identity were to come under such deep, and cutting assault.

If the OP has an OPINION, to share it should be presented as such and even then with respect. No one HAS to LIKE anything. The OP doesn't HAVE to like tattoos... But, if they wish to post trash like this they will have to accept that my OPINION on the matter is that the OP's opinion, insofar as it is presented, is about as worthless as a hammer made if glass.

Who else agrees with me? It ruins the natural appearance of your body, makes it look like someone took a big s*** on your arm, gives you a low-class trashy appearance, hurts like hell to get one, looks all wrinkly and distorted when you get older, and can't be removed (without extreme pain), and still leaves a mark when you try. Why on earth do people get these things?

I don't like tattoos either.

I have six tattoos and I had one done as recent as last Thursday, so....nope, I do not agree. But I respect your opinion 8)

Got my first tattoo a little over a month ago. Waiting for a rash to clear up before I can get it touched up & finished - then I'll share pics when it's allll done done, but at this rate it may not happen until January or something.

Some tattoos I like, others I don't particularly care for. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

FWIW I didn't get my tattoo for you or anyone else to judge (although I accept that that happens, just as I judge others' tattoos.) - I got it for me and my personal reasons for wanting it, and what you think about it either positive or negative doesn't change that one iota. :)
