Maybe I don't do that well with facial expressions but I challenge any of fellow Americans here to tell me I'm wrong. @smudge I sorry if this upset your previously worshipful view of Americans!

It does when you make out they're likely to be racist against Arabs, like it's normal and acceptable.

Americans are quite likely to be racist against Arabs. This revelation should surprise nobody.

Americans are quite likely to be racist against blacks. This revelation should surprise nobody.

So we should just accept it then, according to that logic.

He didnt say that Smudge, we dont need this created firestorm.

Using the seriousness of current backdrop for something that was resolved in FOBs own words by "Just Mods" undermines the reality of discrimination.

As I said before, there was more to that altercation than has been aired publically and none of it based on discrimination, the opposite actually...

No racism, classicism, prejudice against ethnic groups, is okay.

What amazes me is how easily used women on the spectrum are.

I like flirting, but not the really overt type.

I take exception when someone says men only evaluate women based on the desire to sleep with them. That’s an absolute generalization and an incorrect one. I don’t evaluate women that way. Only idiot men evaluate women that way.

I was the type of guy that was willing to wait for marriage before I made love to a woman of my dreams.

Good comment.

I'm a bit bitter from the bad experiences I've had. It's nice to hear a positive view :)

Assuming OP is still reading this thread, I have a couple of observations. Like many people here, I don't think she adequately explained her situation. After thinking about this way too much, it would seem that she has had success attracting guys but has never gotten into a serious relationship with mutual respect. I guess she wants to know how to either a.) attract the attention of guys she's interested in but don't notice her or b.) appropriately respond to expressions of interest on the part of those who do show interest in her.

My advice would be to forget the traditional notions of "flirting" and simply use a blatantly straightforward approach. If she wants a date with somebody, she should tell the guy directly, preferably F2F but if not via some other means of direct communication. Why I say this is because, she is not a typical young woman and this sort of direct approach would be consistent with how she and the guy might routinely communicate if they became a couple. My point is that guys who respond positively and respectfully to this approach are probably her best candidates for a relationship.

One other thing. I understand this is personal, however the OP has previously indicated she is religious and has placed restrictions on her sexual behavior. It would greatly help to know a bit more detail about this. This could mean anything from refusing to engage in sexual encounters beyond kissing before her wedding night to simply refusing to have sex outside a serious relationship. The problem is that very few young men her age are going to commit to a long-term relationship that doesn't include some sort of sexually gratifying aspect, although I suspect many would be willing to forgo canonical PIV sex. In saying that, I also don't think many men would be satisfied if given the impression their lover wasn't also enjoying that aspect of the relationship. So whatever her "rules" are, I further recommend that she discuss them in a frank manner with any of her dates, preferably on their first meet-up. Again, if the guy can't handle that discussion on the first date, he's probably the wrong guy.

Another good comment.

Hopefully our friend comes back and we can get past the arguing.

I was in the same boat at her age.

Okay, so thank you all for your responses. I'll try to articulate my situation more clearly.

I go to school at a relatively secular, liberal institution. I'll be a Senior in the Fall, though I don't know what's going to happen with all this coronavirus stuff going on.

I have attempted flirting in the past and generally I have not had luck. It's easier to come across well online, but in real life I simply have a tendency to put forth... I'm not sure how to put it. I think a bit of a high-strung/awkward and immature persona. In spite of being passably attractive, men aren't really interested in my experience. Some of my idiosyncracies and stims (like talking to myself in my dorm or smiling and spacing out at inopportune times on campus, leading some people to think that I'm staring at them, checking them out-- or the opposite, that I'm deliberately ignoring them when I'm just spacing out) have led people to think that I'm "crazy" or "creepy".... In addition to this, my OCD and issues with eye contact have led to problems socially. This makes it difficult to approach guys in general, especially because I don't want to be cruelly shot down.

Guys in class that I'm interested in don't really seem to notice me. I don't know how to read interest, and the clubs I'm in are mostly girls. This COVID thing kept me from expanding my horizons and joining more clubs this semester.

I am also religious and would prefer to withhold from sexual relations until I am in a relationship that is intended to be permanent. (As I've heard it explained, it's not that you need to have the wedding ceremony to have sex, but if you have sex you are married in the eyes of God.) This further limits my options, not only to men of my faith but men who are willing to forgo sex until such commitment. (Most Christian-identifying men in my area are cultural Christians who do not really care about that.)

In my experience, if one attempts to "kind of" satiate a guy's libido, he will keep pushing until he's asking you to have sex with him. Doing anything like that with him will make it worse, not better.

I hope you find a good guy who would wait for marriage to have sexual relations.

It’s probably easier to find such a guy these days than it was during the generation previous to this generation.

I’m thinking maybe you shouldn’t overtly flirt with men, because most would get the “wrong idea.” It would be better to let your personality and knowledge “do the talking,” rather than make an effort to “flirt” more than what is natural within you.

Can we assign you as her mentor? She really sounds much like you, attitude wise (that's a compliment, WT).

That's probably not a good idea Boo. I've not been very successful.

What can I teach?

Not to make some past mistakes for example? If you live early 20s again what would you do?
