And some feel extremely lonely in their relationships. Not to mention abuse.

Relationships are tricky, even the happy ones require hard work to keep them that way.

Thanks for diminishing my feelings… you gotta reslize how condescending this kinda thing sounds to those of us who are chronically single but don’t want to be…

I realize someone hungry desires even poison.

Just because you have had bad relationships doesn’t give you the right to put down those who haven’t.

I've been alone and I've been in an abusive relationship where I felt worse than alone. I definitely prefer being single over that. I will say that it would be nice to have a good relationship, though, and I can commiserate with single people who feel lonely.

There are different types of being single.

If you are single and have close relationships with friends and family, whom you see often, that is different than being single with no friends or family.

Having roommates as a single person is less lonely than living alone whilst single and so on.

I've been single a good portion of my adult life and it has many benefits.

Hence why my neighbor Anita compared me to SpongeBob SquarePants since he has friends and other characters who care about him even though he is (presumably) single

Even when I was single I was never TRULY alone because of my family and friends which is what Anita was trying to get at!

But now my mom is in a permanent rest home facility and my dad is dead so all I have left is my brother

All except she didn't put anyone down. Read what she said, she's offering sympathy but you failed to understand that and responded like you were insulted.

He was probably refering to editing his post, which made it stripped of original emotions - but not all forms of expressions of emotions are appropriate here.
I'm sorry.

And except "someone hungry desires even poison" makes no sense.

Ah, fair enough.

It does though, it's a really clear metaphor.

It's essentially saying someone who feels they've been denied something critical (like romance, family, etc) may well come to desire even a tainted, harmful version of what they're after, simply to know what it's like.

It is really pointless being jealous of other couples. A person will only make themselves unhappy by being envious in such a way.

It sounds profound and all, but in the end very few people, no matter how hungry they are, will ingest something they know will kill them.

It's better to say "delirious hungry people have been know to eat poisonous substances". Not everyone as the poster suggests.

That post is what I was referring to, not her editing my first comment in this chain (which I specifically picked very mild words for in the hope that it wouldn’t happen). I get the vibe that she has had a lot of negative experiences in relationships and now thinks all are bad.

Of course I would try my best to avoid toxic/abusive situations! I may be inexperienced but I’m not blind! There was nothing sympathetic about that quote.

I don't recall the word everyone appearing in "someone hungry desires even poison", but hey, maybe my eyes aren't as good as yours.
