Don't Become This Guy
But of course it is a lie, just like every other organized religion is a lie. You are 19 already (living on your own?) and haven't figured this out yet? Uh-oh. Careful. Don't get stuck believing this crap for the rest of your life.
I disagree, and strongly. You cannot say for a fact that it is a lie; it is your belief that it is. The existance of God cannot be unproven any more than it can be proven. Everyone will reach their own conclusions based on their own experiences. I have experiences that tell me God is real; you do not. So it is. But do not for one minute assume that those with faith are any less well informed or any less thought out than those without it; this just isn't true.
And lets NOT battle it out here. I know from the PPR forum that the existance of faith or lack of it tends to be fully entrenched in the posters on these forums. Just, please, accept that reasonable and intelligent people may differ.

Well each their own man, I can't convince you to believe in one way or another as after all any religion or faith is just that, faith. I will say though that it is disrespectful for you to talk smack to me over my beliefs, but hey man this isn't a site to discuss religion, but I am not going to let my faith get slandered even on a site for autistic people without saying something to defend it.
To Janissy and Aspie1: An 'ugly-ugly' combination recombines 'inferior' genetics in the production of offspring. As I pointed out earlier, this could result in serious illnesses. Speaking as someone who has never had a girlfriend, I don't think the solution will be as simple as getting all the ugly people to pair up with each other (as cute as you think that may be). We need to worry about their happiness.
I've written two essays that you can read if you want:
Darwinism and Sexual Selection
The Role of Genetic Adaptation in the Creation of New Ideals, Societies, and Political Systems
To WrongPlanetLurker: You know what? You can read my posts. That's fine; it's what they're there for. But you came dangerously close to strawmanning my position on eugenics and appealed to majority belief at that. Even if the whole world turned against me, it wouldn't mean I was wrong.
Since you're still in high school, I'll go easy on you, but I found what you wrote to be very condescending.
To WXDustin: I do think that Christianity may be responsible for a great deal of suffering. Other than that, I had no intention of insulting you. Sorry if I made you angry.

Suddenly I get the feeling that you and I are talking about completely different things when we use the term "ugly". I'm not talking about people who have serious birth defects which have badly messed up their looks. I'm just talking about rather ordinary people who wouldn't be considered attractive but who have no particular genetic problems. To give movie star examples, Danny DeVito, John Goodman, Kathy Bates. Unattractive people pair up all the time to no particular ill effect and their own mutual happiness. Perhaps our disconnect is that I'm calling them an ugly-ugly pairing (Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman) whereas you look at the people I lable as less attractive and say "looks fine to me" because you were talking about somebody who has some sort of terrible syndrome that makes their jaw too big or their ears too small or something like that.
And for the record, lots of genetic problems don't hamper a person's attractiveness. Diabetes, for example.
And people who seem to be total winners in the gentic lottery can nonetheless be carrying the genes for some terrible disorder, like John Travolta and his tragically deceased son who inherited a fatal seizure disorder despite the joined loveliness of his parents.
You can't really predict who will pass on what based on what they look like.
By the way, if that's you in the avatar picture...you're good looking. So all this talk about looks should be a moot point in your quest. But I would never let the word "eugenics" slip out of your mouth when talking to women. That right there will kill your chances.

"Ugliness" is an arbitrary concept that has no bearing on genetic quality; there is no illness of being unattractive, despite the sensationalism to the contrary. You are making an erroneous and disturbing association between contemporary (and fleeting) standards of attraction and genetic health... a rather dangerous one, I am afraid. And just because you have written on the subject does not make you an expert, or correct about your assertions.

Thanks. I'm just a bit concerned after having had dreams like this:
I'll leave this thread alone, now.

You just got stuck on the same point every other religuious person I've ever debated.
I do not believe different than you. I do not 'believe' in anything. I know. A belief is illogical and irrational.
[/off topic]
You believe that what you know is fact; beliefs are those things that people assume are true when making other decisions in life. You have beliefs, just like everyone else... yours just don't include religion. Nothing wrong with that, but belief does not equate to irrational or unreasonable. If you need to argue religion, take it to PPR.

You had to write it in sheet music format? Now I can't get that out of my head...

You cannot "know." As Mak said, if you want to go down that road, take it to PPR. Here, accept that different views are to be considered valid. When it comes to love and dating, you only need to be on the same page as the person you are with - or, if not on the same page, accepting of it.
