Hi everyone! I have a bit of a problem and I was wondering what others would do. There is this guy in my PC repair class that I think is really sweet, and I want to get to know him better. He is really shy, but we have talked a few times, and I think he might have been flirting with me. Would it be too forward of me to ask him if he'd like to go get a cup of coffee? I was always taught that the guy should make the first move, but what if he is too shy to ask? Any thoughts on this?

I'd say go for it.

Personally I would not go out with someone that asked me out. Unlike 90% of men these days. What would be really great, is if a girl I ask out say yes

Just go for it... we men have too much pressure on ourselves as it is in this society...

you said coffee right.... that's a good place to start.... it keeps on a friend level.... if he's willing to go then it might spark something further.... but there is nothing wrong with asking a friend out for coffee... do it... life is to short to miss oppurtunities.

They say that women have better intuition about who likes them than guys have. That's why I think it's stupid that WE always have to initiate...

That reminds me of something... if this guy is indeed an aspie, starting at friends level is actually preferable... a relationship involving an aspie runs much more smoothly when the lovers are also friends...

Hi There,
I've been in your situation a number of times. I'd ask him, to get it over with, and stop worrying about it. You can't change his reaction, but you can still have fun. It can be very difficult to figure this out. Maybe form a friendship and see how it goes, and/or pick an activity that doesn't require lots of talking for your first outing--like a movie or concert. That way you won't have to worry about what to say and he won't either. My blog is mostly about social issues for people with learning differences; a link to it is on my profile, or search "NLD musings." Hope it goes well. I know how much a relationship means. Don't worry if it doesn't work out, though.

I'd say go for it  . If he is flirting with you, he may be interested, but if he is shy, he may not have the courage to ask you out. So it's best if you ask him if he wants to go out for coffee.

Bah! Silly society.

I have made the first move in almost every relationship I've been in. I'm not one to play games and hint around waiting for the guy to make the move just because 'society' says so.

I, too, say go for it :)

I don't know about this one. There are plenty of girls that have certain "guy friends", and they don't have a clue that they are interested in them. I, myself have really good intuition, and animal like instincts, so I pretty much always know who is interested in me, or not. Not that I would really act upon it though.

As far as which one does the asking...who cares, as long as someone does. :D

Do it, in my opinion. I've had good and bad experiences from women asking me out; while it can be startling, it is also somewhat flattering in an objective sense. Don't rely on old traditions to temper your interest - take the chance.

I know this post is a little late, but go for it!

Note however, that if he's really shy, he might be startled and reply in a strange or even rude fashion.
