This is another place where I have been stupid. Someone pm'ed me that there was a significance in sending roses of a particular color to someone. Who knew? I only grow yellow and orange roses, so those are the only colors I give. But a couple of years ago I was courting a woman and gave her yellow roses. I wonder if she thought I only wanted to be friends? Ay yi yi. This is hard!

If i take the time to paint a rose plaid, what does it mean then?

I think this might be obscure enough that she didn't know (though red is the traditional color for romantic crap)

Dunno.

I bet a dead/decaying rose would be pretty darn obvious, though.

Oh, scary me. I tracked down my clan's colors. Same colors I have been wearing (or close). Oops. Don't tell Vivi I like plaid. She'll never speak to me again :P

well, i can live without blue (don't like blue), but i'm a fan of tartan - i have a kilt i bought only the other day, amongst other things.

and there is a blue rose, only it's more lavender than blue, and lives happily in my garden, and smells rather gorgeously - a sweet lemony/citrus fragrance.

depends which source you use as to what the significance of colour is, but the victorians used to send whole message by sending bouquets - colour, age of flower, species, length of stem (i think), etc. marvellous - a floral code!

My ex-boyfriend had it easy... he knew I was obsessed with the color orange... all he had to do was track down an orange rose somewhere, and I'd say screw all "official" color symbolism, you found me a rose in my colors, I love you.

I think the Rolling Stones covered that issue definitively.

That's a fairly Victorian concept I think, the identification of emotional states or messages with different types and colors of flowers. I know red roses are the traditional romantic thing, but I always appreciate getting any kind of flowers. Don't know any women who don't.

I wouldn't particularlywant flowers for the following reasons: They're expensive, I don't have any vases or places to put them, they die quickly, and the cat would eat then. Did I mentione they're expensive? If something's gonna cost that much I think I'd want it to be more useful. I mean I wouldn't think it was dumb or anything if I got flowers, I would, indeed, appreciate it, but there are better ways to spend money IMO. Then again, my idea of what is and isn't romantic is pretty close to that of an andriod.

I realize that those are the official meanings, but are those the meanings that you (plural, general, inclusive) associate with those colors of roses?

For me, dark red signifies lust or sexual desire, without much actual love. Bright red would be another story- sexy and lush, full of life, like blood. White- innocence, purity, honesty. Pink is just friendly/pretty/pleasant. Peace roses are my favorite (along with white) and carry the most depth for me. Not only is the color nice, but the form of the flower is usually good without being too tight and mundane looking like most dark red roses are.

I always thought white meant friendship and red passion/love.

Chocolate roses may not mean true love, but if the guy's not a keeper they're the first step on the way to letting yourself go again. :P
