I've written some stuff I wanted to get feedback on (I have no way of telling if my writing sucks or not myself). But... I am paranoid someone could steal my (guessing if I had/have descent ones) ideas & use/publish them themselves. Is there a way to prevent this :? ? I have posted some stuff in my account blog thats it though. The rest is either handwritten or on my home computer.

No way to guarantee it anywhere, really, but do NOT post it here.. WP TOS states that anything you write here, THEY own. Many other sites will state that you own the copyright on anything that you post, but there isn't much of a way to actually enforce it. A site that requires registration to view might help. Also having posted something establishes some degree of copyright.. usually. But not here.

From the WP TOS:

wrongplanet.net domain by any of its visitors, members, and staff.

By posting to the forums, or any other sections of this site, you signify agreement that you
are giving WrongPlanet permission to use, modify, and reproduce your submission, in part or
in whole, in any way, shape, form, or method in which we decide to do so, at any point in
the present or future at our discretion.

Any and all information posted on WrongPlanet.net may not be copied or used elsewhere, in
any way, shape, or form, either on the Internet or in print without express written consent

More writing specific sites might have more copyright protection, and more options on specifying copyright.. Deviantart has some writing stuff but is more graphics oriented, but it has options of specifying what rights you want to reserve (particularly with the creative commons licenses where a lot of people want to specify that others can use there work and modify it so long as they give other people the right to do the same with any derivative works) I'm not sure how much writing differs from graphics so far as copyright stuff on that. Ya might want to check out writing sites.. (btw.. why is this in the "love and dating" section? Ya probably would have gotten more responses on the "random" board)

Copy it, add name, date, address and signature to it, post it to yourself then never open the envelope thats how to copyright something for yourself. hope that helps. :D

Mailing a copy of something you've written to yourself is called a "poor man's copyright" which can be faked and won't hold up in court (paying for a lawyer to reclaim your work is going to cost a lot more than the $30 to collect a hardcopy of your works in progress and send them to the copyright office). Once you commit your idea to paper or some other tangible medium, you're automatically protected under the Berne Convention. Your best bet is to bundle your short stories and unfinished novels together as a collection and pay the copyright fee, then at least you have something on file if a dispute arises.

Besides, you can't copyright an idea (you can patent an idea, but patents don't apply to works of fiction). If you show someone your work and they write a short story based on the idea without plagiarizing it, you can't claim copyright protection.
