Women's Pelvis/Big heads shaped Human Evolution?
That shall be in the science forum instead, but for some reason, all evolutionary and sexuality theories are usually posted here.
Shlain offers carefully reasoned and certain-to-be-controversial discussions on subjects such as menses, orgasm, masturbation, menopause, circumcision, male aggression, the evolution of language, homosexuality, and the origin of marriage.
As in the bestselling "The Alphabet Versus the Goddess," Leonard Shlainas provocative new book promises to change the way readers view themselves and where they came from. "Sex, Time, and Power" offers a tantalizing answer to an age-old question: Why did big-brained "Homo sapiens" suddenly emerge some 150,000 years ago? The key, according to Shlain, is female sexuality. Drawing on an awesome breadth of research, he shows how, long ago, the narrowness of the newly bipedal human femaleas pelvis and the increasing size of infantsa heads precipitated a crisis for the species. Natural selection allowed for the adaptation of the human female to this environmental stress by reconfiguring her hormonal cycles, entraining them with the periodicity of the moon. The results, however, did much more than ensure our existence; they imbued women with the concept of time, and gave them control over sexaa power that males sought to reclaim. And the possibility of achieving immortality through heirs drove men to construct patriarchal cultures that went on to dominate so much of human history. From the nature of courtship to the evolution of language, Shlainas brilliant and wide-ranging exploration stimulates new thinking about very old matters.

An interesting read. So we are here ,discussing on this forum, because of our recent ancestors' big heads and our species' narrow pelvises?
Works for me.
I read elsewheres that the big head/narrow pelvis/smart humanity/women's sexuality changes that our species went through got enshrined in the Genesis story of Adam and Eve.
The author put it like this: The "smart humanity" part was eating from the Tree of Knowledge. Eating from the Tree of Knowledge gave babies big heads- which womankind was punished for via painful childbirth (big head/narrow pelvis). The effects on and of women's sexuality got enshrined in Eve's chit-chat with the snake. Adam was really left out of that and sort of bumbled along after Eve, eating the apple when she told him it was ok to.
It's as though people understood this evolutionary biology on some level and worked their gut feelings into a plausible myth. I suppose examining myths from many cuyltures could confirm that or put the kibosh on it.
Anyway, I agree that it's lots of good debating fun to look at evolutionary biology and suddenly realize how it pulls our strings in so many ways.
