Today I decided to be really bold. I was doing some filming in a museum a few days ago, and while I was there, I met a tour guide who I am convinced was into me. I would catch her looking at me, before she would coyly look away, and she seemed interested in what I was doing (she sure hung around a while while I worked.

So I gave it a few days, but I decided to go out on a limb and call her. No contact info, so I called the museum and asked for her. She was with a group, so I left a message. That's it for now. I guess I have to wait to see when (and if) she'll call me back.

In the meantime, any suggestions as to what I should do? I want to be more relaxed, and don't want it to be too "datey," yet frankly I don't know anything OTHER than the dinner and/or movie paradigm. Any thoughts?

How about talking over some coffee.

Or talking a walk in the park?

Those are relaxing, right?

Asking her to meet you for coffee is a good first move. (It's a safe thing for a single woman to do with a man she doesn't know well, since it doesn't involve riding in a stranger's car or getting drunk and doing something she'll regret on a first date.) If the coffee date goes well, then you can ask her if she wants to do a dinner and a movie type date.

Definitely something low key. The tour idea is not bad, actually. Ask her to give you some "inside" info about one of the exhibits or something. Make something up if you have to, but since you were there filming it will come off as legit.

Greetings.

I'm the Doc. I seriously need to change my name.

however, what I do is advice. and I have a radio show. as well.

Coffee is a generally good idea. however. and I caution with However, a lot.

She may have been looking over to make sure you weren't disturbing the peace or anything along those lines. so what you may have thought you saw, may have been something entirely different. jus saying.

not trying to get your hopes up, I'm an objective person.

She called me yesterday, a day after I left the first message. I compromised on your suggestions, since I don't like to drink coffee, but didn't want to go as serious as dinner/movie. So I suggested lunch. She said she had a boyfriend.

F*ck

I was so sure she was interested. Do you guys ever get the feeling like we're walking the wrong way on an escalator? We think we're making progress, when we're really in the same spot. I think I'm breaking down barriers and fear, and yet, I'm still misreading. I'm still, fundamentally, where I've always been, and fear I always will be. How are any of us to get ANY experience in relationships, if we're so fundamentally at disadvantage. Who the hell would want us anyways? I know we're supposed to be used to failure at this sort of thing on the way to a successful relationship, but Jesus F*cking Christ throw us a small bone? Are we not entitled to some kind of companionship? Is it so much to want to be wanted?

You're stressing about this too much. She probably is interested, and I wouldn't write her off. Maybe she doesn't really have a BF, or maybe she's not happy with him, or maybe things are going sour between them. There could be a million things going on you don't know about.

Have the lunch, be nice, be polite, be you. Stay in contact with her, and if things don't work out with him, guess who will be on the short list of next people she wants to date? In the meantime, nothing is keeping you from dating other people as well -- if anything, you also dating raises your attractiveness.

What billsmithglendale said.

And, I'd like to stress that you didn't necessarily read her wrong. She may very well have been checking you out and found you very interesting, and you picked up on that. She also may not have thought in a million years that you would act on it. Significant other or not, girls and guys are constantly sending out signals--we are animals and that is what we do. Just because you have someone in your life, that doesn't shut off.

You sound disappointed, and rightly so, but don't beat yourself up about it. It probably wasn't anything you did wrong. And good for you for asking her out. Live and learn. (lol I typed that 'love' at first--Freudian slip, I guess  )
