Models generally are not especially intellectually inclined given that their job is just to stand there and look pretty (of course there are exceptions, and who doesn't like a beautiful, intelligent, and talented woman?), but in some ways, models might actually be easier for an aspie guy to chat with. Why is this? Well, you might call it an insecurity, deep-seated need, or preference; but models often have an unusually high need for male attention and approval. This may include an aspie male's attentions.

What does everyone think?

Pointless.

They are for a world that only looks on the surfaces, not for the world I live in.

I'm sure there are some very intelligent and personable models out there. But I'd be far too intimidated by their looks to go talk to them.

I don't think much of them, most of them are ugly as excrement without make-up anyway.

Shush you. I went out on a date with a local fashion model last year. We met at a Starbucks. She was very pretty.

Physical attraction was there. Of course it ended with her bolting out of any possibility of a long term relationship. Hmmm sounds familiar guys? This was before I knew about AS.

I read the title of this thread and immediately thought, "Yes! Models are awesome! I'm thinking of building a Vorlon transport sometime soon!" :D

More often than not, I don't find models attractive, I think we're using a different criteria here.

Didn't Heidi Klum make 35 million dollars last year, mostly with her success with her TV show which she produced, "Project Runway"?

I would say that would take some intellectual inclination.

She's a genius.

I admit, I was going to make a flippant remark about the smell of polystyrene cement and Humbrol paints higher up the thread, but thought better of it. Can't say I've ever seen anyone model a Vorlon ship outside of CGI, though...

I would guess models would be the equivalent of "alpha females", in that you have the actual models, many of which are intelligent people (not always 100% nice, but they can be), and you have the wannabe models who are usually the snobs about it...

I don't really find models attractive 99% of the time. My wife watches America's Next Top Model and the girls always seem very unattractive, at least to me. I'm not really a fan of the show (it's just not my thing), but from watching it with my wife, I get the impression that it is actually more about having a certain skill set and attitude than actual looks, especially in more recent times when everything can be "adjusted" in Photoshop.

And to Lachlan...do they make Babylon 5 model kits? That would be awesome... The First One ships would be a bit difficult, though...:P

I did some modeling over the summer. Trust me, it is much much harder than it looks.

You have a photographer telling you to move your arm 2 inches to the left and to raise your foot six inches, contort your body the way it doesn't want to go, hold the position for 5 minutes while he adjusts his camera and at the exact time he wants to take the picture you have to look like you are having a pleasant day.

Not exactly easy work.

Yes, that is the impression I get from watching ANTM with my wife. I used to think it was just standing there an looking pretty, but it really is a skill. Even a lot of the aspiring models seem to go into it with that false assumption and find out they are quite bad at it and their looks mean nothing.

models are a varied bunch. a lot of then are borderline narcissistic, but it's no rule. one of my friends is a model, and before I got to know her better I was really sceptical towards her (she's friends with my close friend so she was kind of "forced" upon me too), especially after I'd found out that she ran in lots of beauty peagants.

and I admit she's not the most intelligent person I know, but she's super-nice and laid back and non-judgemental. I really like her company a lot and she's been in a relationship for 4 years with a guy you wouldn't really call desirable.

Very true... Like just about any other job, it doesn't necessarily define you as a person. Altough some assumptions can be made, there are still just assumptions.

Okay, maybe modeling isn't quite as easy as standing there and looking pretty, but you guys are all missing my point. I was thinking that paradoxically they might be easier to get to know or begin a relationship with because of their insecurities, and this could be a boon for, ahem, desperate aspies.
