Interested in Men of a Certain Religion

This post is embarassing, but I'm curious about it and have to ask.

This is really really odd, but I find that lately (in the past 3 years or so) I have become increasingly fascinated with Catholic men, to the point of having crushes and idealizing them for their faith. It seems to extend to both the devout and the devout-yet-questioning. Totally lapsed doesn't interest me.

I don't want to objectify someone based on their religion, so think I need to explore this further.

The only theory I can put forth is that maybe the idea of "Catholic guilt" reminds me of some aspect of myself. Or maybe that I want to believe in God so badly but just can't seem to, that their strong faith attracts me. But it doesn't seem to apply to people of other faiths, which is odd. Like, a devout Mormon, Baptist, or Muslim would not interest me in the same fashion. So, that is why it is strange to me.

I was not raised Catholic, but my dad is a lapsed or "cultural" Catholic, who turned Baptist. I was raised Baptist but went to an Episcopalian school for several years.

I am wondering if anyone else had a similar type attraction and had analyzed it more than I have analyzed mine....

I just look for other Christians. I am a Lutheran myself, and there aren't that many in Texas (most Lutherans live in the upper Midwest--Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, etc.)

I’m from a Catholic family, but an atheist.

As far as catholic guilt that applies less to liberal Catholics. My father doesn't take communion because a priest told years ago that he couldn’t if he used contraceptives. But I think it is more his aspie tendency to get into arbitrary routines rather than anything else. He doesn’t follow any of the conservative ideals. Grandfather on the other hand lots of guilt over divorce, even unsuccessfully tried to get it annulled from the Pope. I don’t think it really had anything to do with my grandmother either, so was intelligent, where as he just want someone who agrees with everything he says. Well that was until he got alzheimer's now he’s a teddy bear apparently.

I think cute nuns are hot. But I'm pretty sure it's the outfit, not the faith. Or maybe it's the whole "Bride of Christ" taboo.

What's this about "Catholic guilt?"

Last I heard, it was "keep your sons away from those horny priests!"

Could it be a cultural thing? In the US at least, Catholics tend to be more "ethnic" than other Christians, who have often completely lost the culture of their ancestors (both white and black).

I am pretty much repelled by Christians, all types especially catholics. Otherwise I don't really care about religion. With me though, I wouldn't date an atheiest either, as I want someone who I can discuss my beliefs about and analyse etc.

What a hilarious coincidence! This morning, I woke up thinking about how Jewish men are sexy. And so the first thing I did online was to look for websites featuring sexy Jewish men. I wasn't looking for porn; just a collection of random photos of hot Jewish guys.

Unfortunately, all I could find were disappointing blogs and dating sites.

I didn't check out the Jewish dating sites because 1) I'm not looking to date anyone, as I'm already involved with a sexy Jewish-looking guy (although he's actually Catholic by origin and an atheist by choice) and 2) I think the Jewish dating sites are for Jewish people seeking other Jewish people, and I'm not Jewish. Although I admit to the occasional daydream about a sexy Jewish guy giving me incentive to convert, I'm Anglican by origin and currently refuse to openly categorize myself.

I wonder if there are any photographic collections of sexy Jewish guys out there. Anyone happen to know of one?


And I'm really sorry if this comes across as offensive. This is one of my "not to be taken too seriously" posts; I'm laughing at myself.
