What do girls mean when they say they want a bad boy?

Do they mean someone who's a deviant, or do they mean someone who will treat them like $hit? 'Cause I'm sort of a bad boy in the first sense. I've done drugs. I've committed assault. I was suspended from high school a few times. I tend to say the most shocking thing possible when talking to people, which makes them think I'm crazy or sick in the head (this got me fired from my last job). The police know me pretty well, but I always get away with everything because of my disability status.

I am not a jerk, however. I help people out when they need it, I don't betray people or use them or try to frame them. I'm asexual, so I have no reason to use a girl for sex. I'm not cocky, and I don't feel the need to be cool or macho or sexy. So I'm not sure if they would like me then.

I think it means someone who is rebellious, who doesn't care what others think.

But one doesn't have to be rebellious, or have tattoos or piercing, to be independent.

For example, I am comfortable with who I am (politically conservative, Christian, but socially liberal, happy with my choice of career, etc.), and have no intention of pretending to be someone else to attract people.

To me it means someone who is, shockingly funny or sexy or compassionate or brave. A beautiful many who when he makes love to me, is secure in being touched and touching in anyway that occurs. I think that people just want deeper interactions on certain levels and don't quite know how to express that, so they use the very limiting label of "Bad boy". I personally think, Great Man.

Yes, this is pretty much it. I will say, though, that most women who want this rebellious man, also want a man who is kind of a freak in bed. They usually go hand in hand. It's the thrill of it.

It means said girl is stupid.

I figure that she wants an alpha male. The biggest, smelliest, most aggressive ape on the block. The one who can dominate all the other apes into giving up their resources to him, so he can then give them to her and her young.

When women say they want a bad boy, they don't mean a violent psychotic miscreant with a drug problem who can't function in society. Those people are just losers (though some women are attracted to them, usually quite damaged women). What they really mean is someone who's wilful and domineering and just intelligent enough to succeed.

So they want someone who is big, beefy, and stupid? I don't even want a girlfriend if girls are that dumb.

No, just someone who isn't a slave to someone else.

They need Intelligence of the kind that means they'll go far in life. Not the intelligence of understanding quantum physics and hyper math and that kind of thing.

But yes on the big, and beefy part. Ever notice how successful men, even in careers that don't necessarily require these atributes, are usually tall, well built, and good looking? Women go for that because men like that succeed.

No. No. No. They want someone who doesn't follow the rules-- and will go out of their way to break them.

A bad boy is a non-conformist-- and one who gets much attention.

It means different things to different girls. Above posters have given different examples of what it could mean. Each of those examples is likely true for at least some girls who have said it.

I agree 100%. I think this is where people on here stumble whenever this topic is addressed.

Ever notice circular logic?
They succeed specifically because people associate these traits with tall, well built, good looking people.
Thus they actually become successful.
The great thing is, none of these traits have anything to do with being a good partner.
They might as well be psychopaths.
I think there is lots of stuff written about how people are odd that way.
It may have made sense some millennia ago, but now this stuff is happening in careers where such a thing is not even necessary.
One more reason to communicate solely via computer.
