I suggest any mod to merge all JohnisBlind's questions into this one thread

All these "hitting on people" threads are creepy.

I don't think she meant that as an insult.

I wasn't insulting him. Insulting him would be saying "you are a creep" which I did not say. I said making a million hitting on threads is creepy, because its the truth.

You called them "creepy" that makes it an insult. If you called them annoying or excessive it would be different. Is "hitting on" not a socially accepted thing?

It depends on what you mean by "Hitting on."

How is "annoying" any less insulting than "creepy?"

So far nobody has felt the need to ask. Some people see it as more direct than "flirting" and therefor cruder others see it as more direct and therefor more straightforward.

Hitting on girls, needless to say, seems to require all the things we tend to be really bad at: Eye contact, natural charm and humor, self esteem, reading subtle body language cues, etc... Add the fact that the places where it's socially acceptable to do this are places that are usually loud and crowded, like bars and parties, where we're not at our best, and things only get worse.

I'm not saying it can't be done. There are proven techniques to make your success rate with approaching women you don't know pretty good. It takes practice, persistence, and most of all courage. As much as he's become something of a joke on the internet, David DeAngelo's methods are pretty sound advice for guys starting from scratch, and they work pretty consistently on a certain type of girl. But you have to step back for a minute and ask yourself: Is this the way I want to find a girlfriend, by playing head games and following a script? There are women everywhere, not just at the clubs. And some of them like all the same things you do. And you don't have to 'hit' on them, just talk.

If anyone is bothered by them, no one is forcing you to read them.

Is it really that hard to not click on them?
