Is this reply supposed to be on your thread about the Black Tie Ball?
If so, it's a bit difficult to give a proper layout as events vary. In my experience the first part is the arrival meet and greet stage. This is usually in a bar area and everyone gets drinks then mills around saying hello to those they know possibly being introduced to each other. Basically, aspie nightmare, lots of people and pointless chit-chat.
You buy drinks at the bar or there may be a table set up nearby where they are serving complimentary drinks, or you may be handed one as you come in.
After about half an hour or so everyone will be ushered to the eating area. You find your table and seat (from the displayed seating plan). Whether you sit down straight away or stand until some guest of honour takes their place, depends on the function. Take your cue from what others are doing. Then enjoy your meal.
After the meal there may be speeches or toasts, depending on the function type. I've only been to 1 where this happened.
After all that it's dance time and you can relax and enjoy yourself. Some balls have ballroom dancing, others discos, some half and half. All the ones I've been to at this point are just like any other party apart from the posh outfits.
From my aspie perspective, the worst part is the arrival time.
Hope that helps.
