OK, I just got back from my latest online first date, and I don't feel nearly as bad as I did after the last one.

The girl was absolutely awesome, we hade tons in common, tons to talk about and she is sweet, smart, funny, and talented. Even if things don't work out romantically we couldn't help being friends.

The date lasted about 2.5 hours and flew by. She ended it herself, but it felt like a natural "breaking point" for a first date, so it wasn't awkward or anything.

She said that I looked better in person than I did in my photos, which doesn't surprise me because my photos suck.

She did make it a point to talk about her last relationship, which ended in scandal a few weeks ago after a hot 6-month romance which she described as "absolutely wonderful".

In short, I got a strong feeling that she definitely likes me as a person, but I am afraid she was still comparing me to her last relationship and sense she may not be ready for a new one just yet.

When the date ended she gave me a warm, close hug which seemed to last a little longer than just a polite one. It felt great. :) other than that, it was friendly and casual...

How would I know how she feels about me: friend or beau?
What should I do next? How strong should I come on?

Any advice would be deeply appreciates

When I go on a date with a girl, the more I think about it and over analyze it and over complicate it, the more likely I'm going to screw it up. So those three questions you asked...forget them. Those questions will be answered in due time. We can't answer them, only you can. Just be you. Don't be who you think she wants you to be. Just relax.

Did you say anything toward the end of the date about scheduling a follow up or are you still trying to feel that out? I ask because usually if I want to investigate more I'll try doing that before the date is over, right about the time where things are wrapping up. I think that helps them as well walk away feeling like the feeling was mutual rather than wondering if you weren't into them.

did you call her and tell her you enjoyed the date? if not you should. she might like you, you never know, and if you come off as not caring she might stop liking you :P just call her up how long has it been? oh not long, good. you should call her before 2 days pass. otherwise she will think you didn't like her. don't make a plan in your head about asking her out on the phone, what i would advise is staying on the phone laughing about other stuff. continue your conversation. after a while tell her casually you are going to a movie or something * name the day* and would she like to come, and did she see that movie already, it sounds really cool.....make it casual and friendly and she will relax totally around you.
and yes, make it an informal date. the first was formal, but she needs to know everything won't always feel like an interview for compatibility. then you're on the right track for next step :) best of luck, i would like it to work tbh!

I'll give it a 6.5/10

Sticking points:

1. You're already talking in "she could be a good friend" mode.
2. She went on about her ex, she hasn't moved on as yet, so probably isn't ready for a relationship. Rebound sex? Perhaps, if you were comfortable with that.

As for follow up calling.

1-2 days = Clingy and Needy
4-5 days = Not interested but polite.

Call her after 3 days

If you get a 2nd date make it something fun, Mini Golf, Movies, Bowling etc.

It couldn't have been bad that it lasted that long, I definitely wouldn't hang around that long with someone I was having a bad time with. Even though she talked about her ex, there's one good thing about it...she said it was a wonderful relationship, which makes it sound more like she's over it than talking badly about him. And it just makes a girl sound kind of crumby when she talks really bad about her exes, because you know she'll talk about you like that too. IMO anyway, it's easier to respect a person who can say nice things about their ex (unless they were like cheated on or abused or something).

And yes, did you schedule for a next time? Don't think too hard about when you'll call her again, I've never known a girl to count the days between when a guy called her next, unless it's a super long time (I'm a girl, btw)

Yeah. Like he said. Don't look too needy.

You want to come across as a cool dude with lots of choices so she will have to chase you!
