From the stats I've read, it appears that %80 of people diagnosed with AS are male. Now, keeping in mind that A) I'm not an expert and B) The number of people diagnosed is not the same as the total numbers of people who have AS, I was thinking about how this would affect aspies looking to date other aspies. It appears that there are too many AS men and not enough women.

They say that 1 and 8 kids diagnosed with Autism is considered to be male. So.. Therefor I would assume that there would be more guys who have AS than females. It would just make sense.

I've read somewhere that the ratio is one women to five men. So yeah, the odds are low if you're searching for an aspie woman.

The issue is with the word "diagnosed". Women tend to fly under the radar as they adapt better and are focused on less. Just because men are diagnosed 5 times more often does not mean that the condition is 5 times more prevalent.

Exactly! The problem is that's its very difficult to figure the actual numbers of undiagnosed aspies. So I don't know how close (or not) the actual ratio is.

I didn't know that!

I suppose we just need to find someone who's the opposite of us. I know I like quirky girls, but the problem is that there aren't enough to go around!

Dont just limit yourself to aspie girls or girls that seem aspie. Theres not a whole lot of us. The chances you'll end up with an aspie female is low.

i tend to think that the statistic estimating the percent of undiagnosed male aspies was just a simple extrapolation of the percent of diagnosed male aspies.

in my opinion, there are probably a higher proportion of undiagnosed females vs. males as compared to diagnosed females vs. males, because little girls are often forced to follow social rules to a higher degree than little boys. it seems to me that this gives them a bit more of a mask and they fly under the radar, in spite of having extreme social difficulties in their own distinct way. but i don't have any sources to back up this idea.

I don't limit myself to dating aspies. I just can't ever get ANYONE to go out with me.

To the op, you are pretty much spot on but soooo many people are goose-stepping to the politically correct mantra of 'don't generalize' which really means 'it is a sin to make a definitive statement' that you can hardly go anywhere and receive a rational answer to your question.

Yes, the majority of Autism Disorder people affected are males and the 80% is probably really close to the truth, so Yes the male to female ratio of AS IS out of Wack!
