When i hear the phrase "eligible bachelor" i wonder what exactly makes the person "eligible"? Who determines eligibility, and what are the criteria for being considered eligible.

Im a bachelor (involuntarily celibate is more like it), am i, or how do i gain eligibility???

Eligible Bachelor means a man is available to be married. He can be truly single, divorced, or widowed.

Confirmed Bachelor means a man is single and not likely to ever marry. Usually a man is in his later years when this label is attached.

I think it mostly means you're not suspected of being gay, or are not separated but not divorced, not known to be in a long-term relationship, etc. I think there can be additional criteria such as being rich, or not living in parent's basement, which depend on the person who is saying it.
