Do you ever wonder if you've just had your identity jostled or head messed with in too many ways from hard knocks to even be right for the dating scene anymore? Sometimes I feel like Will Smith in I Am Legend, like I'm simply run too ragged to go back.

I think love can heal a lot of messed up things.

I don't think I've ever been right for 'the dating scene' (if such a singular thing exists) and ever will be.

I just need to be right for me and someone else.

What do you mean by run ragged? Tired? Do you mean that dating seems like fighting zombies?

I feel like this. Like I've been stretched too thin, somehow, and there's nothing I have to offer right now.

While that's true in a certain light no. I think mv nailed it, that and feeling like you've had your psyche smashed in a few too many times to come back together in mint condition as its a bit numb and scabbed up.

This thread made me laugh between the zombies and the vampires.

And I Am Legend isn't quite an apt analogy. The protagonist wanted human contact more than anything else. Even a mannequin would do. I don't think he would have blown himself up were he able to reason with the darkseekers. Why die when you have the chance to live? When what you've worked toward all these years is oh so close?

But to answer your question, I am petrified of dating again. I really admire the ones here, like you, who keep putting themselves out there. What can you do to make things right with you again? To overcome the hard knocks you endured and present yourself at your best so that you will attract the best? Oh, I don't mean to make this sound all pep-talky. I'm really curious.

I like the things you write, techstepgenr8tion. I find myself nodding in agreement sometimes and going, hhhhmmmm, yeah that makes sense or yeah that makes me think.

I hope you find who or what it is you're looking for.

I dont know. I know I dont really feel like dating. my heart would not be in it. I almost feel like being by myself, for years. I think what I would like best is some good friends. And cuddles from pets. And for things to work out for me, of course.

I know what you mean, zen_mistress. A friend of mine said, after me lamenting another boring weekend on the phone, that what I need are girlfriends. My sisters are my best friends, but they have their own lives. And my other two high school/college friends have young families, too.

What I really need is an activity partner on the weekends and a lover during the cold nights. I don't really desire much the rest of the time. Is that too much to ask?

I only saw the tail end of the film and I guess I just thought they were fast zombies. I remember that the critters in the book were vampires.

I might be on the right track right now - just that there's no clear way to see it, its a guess more than anything.

Thanks, that means a lot to me :), as in - I don't think anyone knows how often I feel like the crazy guy who makes no sense to anyone and I start wondering if I should be speaking much at all.

fast zombies are just wrong, also zombies are not photosensitive.

Yes, this is correct.
Those with ASD must content with continual sensory bombardment and are simultaneously required to assimilate, differentiate and at time, disseminate received information from the environment they often find so perturbing.
You are not alone.

 I guess the film wasn't holding my attention to well.

What about 28 days later?

I'm no zombie purist, or general undead pedant.
