Would you love a robot or clone?
Just wondering, surpose it were possible to have androds that looked just like humans and you were able to afford one (or a harrem) for yourself.
Would you love it?
I mean although it would not be human it would look and act just like one (but without free will) to the point that if you did not know that it were a robot you would just think that 'she' were a real live human.
In fact you'd even be able make it into your 'perfect' man/woman as it will have been man made!
Or if you were to have a clone that could not have the mental capastay to reject you no matter how badly you treated her/him would you still love him/her?
As it happens I have a (human) gf so this is not a case of me moping about me being single (for the simple reason that this is no longer the case) but I was just wondering as to what others may think on this matter.
Goodbye Till Next Time.
P.S. To extend the range of this subject would any of you out there fall in love wit some one who was with you as he/she felt that they had to be with you? (ala an arranged marriage)

If it's complex enough so as to have the capacity of deserving it's own civil rights, then that's a double negative. 'Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.' (thanks, Optimus) If it's just a glorified sex-toy that simulates being alive, then I guess it's just a glorified act of getting my rocks off, although paying (probably a lot of) money for a sex-toy just for getting my rocks off so elaborately would seem to be pretty dumb for a variety of reasons...
Ive lost my heart to a book, so i guess i can loose my heart to a robot aswell.
Ive got quite a few cuddles that i love deeply. I'm just really attached to it.
Could i have romantic love for a robot or a clone?
A clone, yes, they're ordinary humans similar to twins. Could i love my OWN clone? I could love it like a child or perhaps "my own child". There would be a 30 yr age difference if they'd clone me now, so.
A robot?
I have not yet seen or experienced androids, with or without free will. I cannot say anything about that, not even hypothetically.
I know i am capable of loving (not romantically) everything, and i know that i am limited in romantically loving everything. I can romantically love adult humans of both sexes, i know i dont romantically love children, i dont romantically love animals nor plants or anything, but who knows ... perhaps i can romantically love supersophisticated androids.
Imagine an android that could look like any of the hottest supermodels around (Interchangeable face plates) , provide mindblowing condom-free sex, cook, clean, know and say key subroutines that press male emotional buttons (appreciation, affection, etc), do therapeutic/erotic massage, not have PMS, never get addicted to booze or pills, not assrape you in divorce court, not make you buy new furniture every year, not cheat on you because she is bored, not tell you "let's just be friends", not get old and wrinkly, not get fat or run up your credit card...
Pretty f*****g awesome if you ask me.
If they were priced at the cost of cars with a financing plan, then a lot of men would by them and opt out of the sexual marketplace (the dating landscape) since they can get what they really came for (physical pleasure and emotional validation) right at home.
Obviously there would be economic winners and losers.
Winners
*Plastics manufacturers
*Programmers
*Robotics
*Primarily male demographic hobby industries (no human wife or gf means more disposable income!)
*Men who are Pickup artists, players, cads, etc.: This is because more men would be off the dating market. The women would have fewer options and increased desperation if they are looking for a committed longterm relationship, needless to say guys will have less incentive for a long term relationship since they will have more options because of less competition from other men.
*Pet Adoptions will go up.
*Surrogates/Test Tube baby industry
Losers
*Bridal Industry: Fewer and fewer marriages since men will have less and less reasons to get married.
*Jewelry
*Divorce lawyers
*Human prostitution: Don't be surprised to see robot brothels.
*Non-prostitution escort services: The human-appearing android can provide the social proof a person needs at a company party.
*Bars: Fewer people looking to go out to get laid.
*Nightclubs: See above
*Mortgage/Home loan lenders: Lots of guys really wouldn't get that big ass house if the wife didn't want it.
*Furniture: See above
*Restaurants: Why go out when you have a chef at home?
I wouldn't be surprised to see the issue of human/robot marriage come up along with the issue of human/robot couples adopting.
The dating landscape would be a lot easier for a lot of men (and women) since the pressure for sex (ability to trade off on the promise of sex) is gone.
No, I want a human, flaws and all. It is their flaws which make them real.

Do you really want that or do you just think you want that because you think society expects you to want that?

I really want that: a human with flaws over a 'perfect' robot any day, and for the record, what you list are not the dream qualities I look for in a partner.

QFT.
The only Android I'll have a relationship with is the one born by Google. I want people with personality, not the soul of a washing machine/Lexus/Prius. I can pluck down money at Sears or the local auto mall if I want a souless, emotionless machine
(or in the case of the later example something that reflects how the Aspie male mind thinks and has few things in common with aspies - odd, awkward, etc...)
I'd totally be up for a robot housemate... I'd make it look like one of the female cylons and refer to it by that name, and she would do all of the cleaning and washing up. It would be amazing. I don't think I'd ever want a robot boyfriend though. I like my men to be autonomous. ![]()
Watch Blade Runner or A.I. or read about Japanese culture where funerals for tools and machines have roots. I think many people could love a machine, just depended on how human it acted. Nobody knows if/how souls exist so most of us tend to assume that we see responsive, intelligent behavior in the environment it is due to a mind/person behind it, i think that's true of robots as much as anything else.
