Actually, I could argue against that. But I'll spare you.
Besides my classes, the best conversations with strangers that I have had have been in the lab where I work. I mean, there's common interest/passion there and we're also mostly pretty strange, interesting, at least partially introverted people. I've even had good
elevator conversations there.
In most settings, if someone looks interesting, I'll probably just go up and make some excuse to talk to them. Given, I'm usually on campus, so I think it's obviously a bit easier/socially acceptable for me to approach strangers than for people that are out of school to do so.
Can't really say I've ever gone somewhere just trying to meet someone - I'd be awful at hiding my ulterior motives, for one thing...
