That is how the old stories go. If you are too persistent these days you are a creepy stalker.

In the old stories the brave young knight would go on quests and fight dragons to prove himself and win the heart of his lady fair.

What a load of rubbish! ANY knight would have to be well born and rich to afford the horse and armor.

And because knights tended to get killed a lot then there would be many more "fair maidens" than there were knights. Buyer's market and all that.

Perhaps the knights should have held a beauty/cooking/sewing contest to thin out the fair maidens who wanted to marry them. :D

I guess he wanted what he couldn't get already.

So ladies play hard to get for a real lad .

And if you were ever caught in a difficult situation, like kidnapped by a horrible old man because a deal went bad, poisoned by an evil step-mother, or imprisoned by a dragon, there would be a good-looking, brave guy who'd put his butt on the line to help you out.

The modern incarnation of that is probably 'a man in uniform' but for as many firefighers and police I know their marriages seem as hit and miss as anyone's.

I used to have a faint heart, then I went over the lines with a big black felt pen, now it's much more defined.

I kinda wish t really was like those stories. I would have a girl by saving her life. & I would be dead if I failed. Seems better than living the rest of my life alone & getting hurt every time I try telling a girl I like em.

That saying is clearly purely overgeneralised rubbish and can be seen as an apologia for stalkers and other nutters.

In that world where do the twig people (i.e. me) fit in? Dragon food.
