At uni, there's a girl I like who I see about the place fairly often. We're friends, but not close friends. We always say hi, and we chat a bit when we go to the same lectures, but we never arrange to meet up or anything.

I would like to take this one step further. I don't mean I want her as a girlfriend, I would just like to take another step in that direction, making it more of a possibility and allowing me to get to know her better.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to go about that?

Ask her to join you for lunch at uni one day, or if a few of your friends are going for coffee or something after class ask her if she'd like to join you. That way it's not just you and her, which can look a bit threatening at times.

Yeah, leaving a lecture with someone to go get coffee/lunch is a good way to talk to them more and get to know them better other then just talking in the lectures. If you have breaks at the same time you can arrange to do the same thing a few more times and ask if she's free on the weekend to catch up or something.. or you could study together. That's another way to get to know them better and see them more often. If you get an assignment or something then suggest a study group kind of thing where you can all meet up sometime and do some work.
