I don't care about race. My only issue is encouraging stereotypes.

It's not something that enters my thoughts often. I don't think it's a big deal who you go out with.
Yet at the same time inter-racial couples are not that common at all.

From what I've seen at least. I'm not saying they never happen or anything, I'm just saying there aren't as many as there are same-race couples. I don't notice them that often, and I was wondering whether the phrase "birds of a feather" apply here too.

(I don't sound all racist do I? I don't want to I'm making observations is all.)

You don't sound racist - I greatly dislike that it feels like you/we/I need to ask this when discussing race, damn PC.

And here I was about to say the opposite is true here in the UK...

In all fairness inter-racial couples can be rare in areas where there is [non-racist] segregation - e.g. where I live is primarily white, we have different areas in Newcastle where it is primarily black, Pakistani, Chinese, etc. - in such areas people are more likely to stay within their own race just because it's what is available, lol. BUT my point is that here in the UK it seems to be much less of an issue than in [some parts of] the US, for example...like I see quite a lot of American interracial porn as it's seen as a bit more taboo in some areas of the US.

OP - I have no issue with interracial couples.
I've been in two; first boyfriend was Indian, one other boyfriend is Native American (I'm white-British) - granted I'm totally blind to these skin tones, so I didn't know that they were not white when I first started going out with them, but my point stands - I don't mind about the colour of someone's skin or the culture they grew-up in as long as it's not in opposition in some way to my own culture.

^^ I am blind to many skin tones too, it's only recently I learned that I am considered olive and not white by a lot of ....whites.

A Czech girl once saw my pic and said something like "O my you're so dark"! (not a bad thing, but it's something I never hear in real life) . Funny, me dark? people here often tell me I am so pale.

Yeah it does kind of suck that people have to be so scared of talking about races, and I do like to discuss race because I find it interesting (kind of a sub-category to my anthropology interest) and I find it cool that there are all those slight differences in body shape, immune system and face and all that, but of course it's not correct to notice it. Even though not being colorblind isn't always a negative thing.

About America and the inter-racial porn, if it's made into a kink like that it kind of shows how uncommon is actually is in some places. Like going out with someone who's seen as "exotic" or something.

She's adorable!
Mixed race kids can be so pretty, they seem to have the best of both sides.

HI! I'm bi-racial (Black/white) and my husband is white with a bit of native-american (Lenape).
I don't mean any disrespect to your post but I actually find it offensive when I see a question of what people "think" about interracial couples as if it were a taboo. It actually was and still is for some folks. It just bugs me when people talk about it as a subject matter. I feel de-personalized by it.

Yeah, there was a weird moment six months into the relationship with my first boyfriend while we were cuddling in bed, after meeting his sisters and father (who are darker skinned and talking about photo's of their cousins who were in Indian dress), it suddenly dawned and I turned to him and said 'Hang on, you're Indian aren't you?' - never have I seen such a confused looking face

*nods* I made the mistake of asking about feminism within different races (other than white) in a feminist community once, because I thought women must face different issues in different races, such as gender roles and beauty standards (e.g. skin bleaching, hair straightening, etc.) - nope, did not go down well AT ALL. A lot of the criticism was along the lines of 'why would women of different races be any different to white women?!'

Granted possibly didn't help that I used the term 'coloured people' - growing-up this is what was considered PC - I meant no offence by it, but it's now 'people of colour' and getting it the wrong way round made me racist. I then got into the discussion about how such terms imply it's whites v everyone else and ignores racial identity, why 'African-American' doesn't work to describe black people, and why saying 'black' is offensive and 'white' isn't. This all went down swimmingly, I was racist at every turn - this is why I dislike PC, it makes it difficult to have an open dialogue and creates tension...but I guess for now PC is still needed. Excuse the mini-rant.

that's rubbish. during my degree i did a sub-topic on feminist theory and there was a whole section on the interaction of feminism and race, which focused on the unique position of black women in societal hierachy.

I'm also a big hater of Political correctness, and the double standards it creates when talking about different races. & you're 100% right about it creating tensions and resentment....in a way it actually creates racism and segregation rather than helping with it.
