This is just off the chain. Anyone heard of it even being proposed before?

I think it's a great idea. When the actual rate of divorce is already 50%, then the structure of marriage doesn't reflect the reality we live in. And divorce is both emotionally and financially devastating. It makes a lot of sense.

Lol.

The sect that my parents belongs to (Muslim Sh'iaa) have invented the temporary marriage concept about more than ~1400 years ago. It's called "Nikah el Mut'ah" (pleasure marriage). It's temporary with a pre-set time and can be renewed.

Didn't I read something about this issue in Steven King's The Running Man. Where the average was a 3 year contract and very few people did a lifetime contract.

I think what just caught me off guard is that I haven't even heard of this being debated in the US, let alone other countries. I can see the sense in it but it's a bit of a blind-side. I always find cultural developments fascinating but I didn't see this one coming.

I think I know the secret behind that one and its evident in the photo - he's taken Lady Gaga on as his hair-stylist. He'll be dieing that blond and touring with Fishbone next.

It's been proposed in some states, but shot down for one reason or another. I can't remember why, nor can I seem to find the articles I read (last year?) about it.

Sorry but I'm distracted now, I just saw that Rocky George, ie. former Suicidal Tendencies guitarist, joined Fishbone back in 2003; that's big. Maybe Joe (Ratzinger) will be jamming on the xylophone with some gold chains and a denim vest. :)

I swear, the man's bringing back the 80's - in his 80's. How's that for multitasking!

I'd give him a break on this one - ie. I have read some of his books, he seems like a sharp and likable enough guy. Politically incorrect to say anything good about the Catholic church I know but there, I said it.

Omg, he convinced you with his charisma! So he IS the emperor.

Nah, I already told you - he's dying his hair blond, getting a denim vest, gold chains, and playing xylophone (possibly marimba as well) for Fishbone. After a year of that he might be coming out as the first pro-choice pope as well.
