I think much of the PUA (pick up artist) advice is scam.

They claim that there are techniques that are rejection-proof, that no woman can resist, and if she's acting uninterested, she is just testing you, and you have to pass these tests.

Yes, of course it's a scam, just like "lose 50lbs in one month by eating pizza and cheeseburgers", "male enhancement pills", etc etc

I do think there is some very limited value in it though, especially if you're into casual/short-term "relationships"...

there was a woman whose brother entered the PUA industry (he had no success with women before that), and she studied the industry from the inside (as far as they would let her in) for a graduate thesis. she gave a balanced perspective as to the history, role and purpose of the whole movement, and was clear about the limitations.

according to her observations and interviews... a man must contact THOUSANDS of women a month to get a few potential digits that may or may not lead anywhere. it seems to me that no program is required - if someone wants to contact thousands of women every month i think they may have the same success rate using just about any technique (asking random women out whilst... riding a unicycle? playing banjo? simply asking for sex?)

this thesis was one of the only legitimate studies on PUA of any sort (and it's only an observational field study, no stats). if you try searching PUA you get massive amounts of bullcrap blogs and self-promotion - nothing solid. so PUA can make whatever claims they want without worrying about science getting in the way... so far.

the thesis is 142 pages long and a riveting read:

I agree, it doesn't teach you is how to maintain a relationship and that's truly something that only comes through experience, maturity and hardship. The ultimate problem with Pick up artist material is that teaches you to put up a facade and when you put up a facade, sooner or later, it's going to fall down and you are going to show your true self.

hyperlexian:

thanks for the read. favorited it.

as you said, since the PUA techniques take hundreds or thousands of women to get results, its no better, if not worse, than not using the techniques at all.

i say, while meeting a large quantity of women is important, quality is important too.

i'd rather meet 100 women who i can develop a close connection with than to meet 1000 by "cold approaching", pursuing options which aren't even real.

Well I think the problem with the PUA people is that they are trying to find some sort of exact way to talk to everyone when that's just not the case. You need to utilize some of the techniques in order to show who you are in a way that is better presented, rather than fit into some mold that you think every woman will love.

I have a friend who is honestly a great guy(also NT) but had even worse luck with women than I did and the PUA stuff gave him the confidence and ability to really show his value to women without changing who he is. He has had great and measurable success with it, he's a genuine and honest guy but had a lot of trouble just talking to women in general.

I don't think that all of the PUA stuff is a scam(some of it is), I think it's more about the individual using it.

my dad lost 7 pounds in one week eating only cheesecake and soda.

Anyhow back to PUA talk. I can see how some of this stuff would work but its not what they sell it to be. Its not a perfect science and usually the ones that give it 100% are the ones that give it a bad name. While the few like me that could get an advantage out of PUA types of exercises to help get the ball rolling, but not do the whole degrading bullcrap of a stereotypical PUA

Yes you're right, that's BS. In naturally forming groups of people, most women are completely neutral to your presence because they are "taken."

The ones that are single will usually send off "give me space" vibes upon first seeing you. She warms up over time.

The details almost don't matter. It's the flirty friendzone, and might lead to (she hopes) a stable dating relationship.

Women masturbate, they get turned on by random people, and most will not admit this. Because they have built barriers against the one night stand. Actually society built the barrier and the women enforce it.
