-walk on the beach/in a park
-go for ice cream or coffee
-go to one of your favourite hangouts

Scary ride, scary film, a meal (with dim lights), a walk at night (in a fairly busy place) <---pupil dilation..

..some big attraction, somewhere with a great view. Maybe somewhere you could make something together.

A concert
Dinner or a movie (never both on the first date, thats too long a block of time if it's not going as good as expected)
A local event you both are interested in
The fair if it's in town or an amusement park
If you have acces to a 4WD vehicle, maybe go mudding. This is good for a two couple date.
Out for drinks
Dancing
To the range if both of you are gun enthusiests
Some place really cool to show her that most people don't know about (one of the best first dates I went on was spelunking, I had never heard of it)
A dog park if both of you have or like pets
To help you look at possibilities for a really cool future purchase (guitar, some kind of electronics, etc)
An internet cafe/coffee shop type place where you can both have laptops or electronic devices and not only look at stuff online but also chat with each other on them while sitting three feet away, if you are kind of shy and communicate better via text
Playing a sport like shooting baskets or archery, but not jogging, many girls don't like to sweat too much on a first date
To a playground that has swings and seesaws and stuff and just play and have fun like kids, then go for ice cream
Too see an autopsy (don't ask, guys dad was a pathologist, but I enjoyed it. It's not for everyone)
Car races, either professional or local 1/8, 1/4. 1/2, 1 mile races
To the beach or swimming (if you are sure she doesn't have body issues)
Hiking (is this the hiking girl? If so, another hike or even a sporting goods store to look at a possible future purchase)

You can do something that starts in the afternoon with a possibility of carrying it over with other activities into the evening if it's going good.
A small club with new bands
A rare book store
To a crawfish boil
On a tour of whatever big and open to the public with tours house you may have in your area (we have old plantation homes that people tour)
The zoo
The botanical gardens
A one time class of something fun at a local community school (ie pottery, cooking, etc)
Walking around the historic or tourist area where you live (many places have specfic things that tourists go see)
Fishing
On a boat ride
To one of those world food expo's
Oktoberfest if it's that time of year
To see the Dogwood or Azeala trails if it's that time of year
Test driving new cars while pretending you are a couple and considering a purchase.
Watching a movie and having pizza at your place
To accompany you to get a tattoo or something pierced (be discreet for the first date)
Motorcycle riding
Go carts

Those are some of the places I've been on first dates on. Some are regionally exclusive but you can substitute something local.

Let us know where you decide to go and good luck!

I caution against a movie for a first date.

The first date is getting to know the person and movies you have to be quiet in.

kite flying

Take her to Costco. Dinner and a movie for under $5.00.

Your list is not pathetic. Mine is just a list of different dates I have gone on (some first, some not) and some that friends have gone on.

Sigh. Please don't be cheap on a first date. It's fine to go low-budget, but try to make the experience special instead of just going for a cheaper option of a more expensive game plan.

If you're on a budget, go for a walk in the park, or flying a kite, or something along those lines.

I did laugh though, if this is meant as a joke.

Sight seeing (only works if they haven't been there before...)
I dunno... isn't there a thread about where you can meet up with a few suggestions? If I recall correctly, Wolfheart either made the thread or made a great contribution.

I've met most of my dates through high school, friends of friends, or work. I met my husband at work. This was the mid 80's mind you, and I was at the convenience store working with my friend because it was a weekend night and busy. He came in and it was the first time I ever laid eyes on him. He walked to the back to get a six pack and I leaned over and whispered to my friend "He's awesome!". I was still shy and made her ring up his beer and I was standing there just grinning at him. She pointed to me and said "This is Frances. She thinks your awesome".

I immediately turned around and stook with my back to him. I was so embarrassed. All he saw then was my back and the spikey short mullet type hairdo I had with the long braided rat tail hanging down my back. It was the 80s! He said "Hey Frances" and I didn't say anything, just stood still, beet red, and waved over my shoulder. My friend said "Why don't you take her out sometimes?" He said he would do that, and then told me bye and left. Next night he asked me out. We went to his place and drank whiskey and listened to music.

Met quite a few dates at that job, before I met him.

Cookout at a park. It's cheaper than eating out, and you can show off your cooking skills.

Make sure it is something you both will be comfortable doing. Try and keep it public and out of the house to. This is just my experience with first dates. My personal favourites usually include going for a walk somewhere and grabbing a drink of tea/coffee or a beer after. Avoid finger foods as well.

I recommend eating outside if it's sunny, or a bar or café if it's not. Also, somewhere very accessible. Try not to plan anything too extravagant for the first date, otherwise it might be uncomfortable/high pressure for one or both of you.
