This is more of a curiosity thing as it happened many years ago. I took Eharmony's long, 40 minute personality survey and they told me I was not matchable. I am curious just how common a thing this is for people on the spectrum?

What did you put as your religion?
How old were you at the time?
Do you have past marriages?

I have not personally been rejected by eHarmony, but from what I hear, if you have, then you're certainly not alone. As of 2007, eHarmony openly admitted to rejecting over a million people. One of the reasons they have cited as being grounds for rejection is if an applicant fails their screening for their "dysthymia scale", which refers to the site's measurement of potential for serious depression. That may be one thing that inadvertantly turns away Aspies-- depression is often associated with AS, and quite ironically caused by rejection.

I did the same a few years back, and was also rejected.

Never really put much, or any really, effort into meeting people online. Still, kinda disheartening to be so unappealing that a dating site won't even take your money.

Whatever though. If I had created a profile and met someone, I might not be in the relationship I'm in now.

Why not just use free dating websites or approach people in real life? Paid ones seem like a bit of a scam.

My ex and I tried it out a couple of years ago for fun, and I only got one match (who wasn't him). Then I tried the sister site for same-sex relationships and was unmatchable. I tried that one again more recently and got a few matches, mostly interstate. Haven't tried the regular site again.

So yeah, I think I'm fairly unmatchable, though not entirely.

On OkCupid, however, I have a stack of matches in the high 90s :D You have to find the site that works best for your personality.

Yeah that is true...
Just because it says that doesn't mean you shouldn't at least try and make something of it, OP.
Websites can say what they like but I choose not to buy their opinion, why should you believe it?
Keep on searching. ;)

I took their test just for fun and it said I was unmatchable.

They do that to a lot of people. I remember seeing a commercial on tv for a competing dating site that based their entire ad on people getting rejected by eharmony.

eHarmony rejects about 20% of applicants and there are about 7 different reasons why.

I had no matches either (I tried signing up a while time ago), and it's not like I was fussy when filling in the form. Also, it's really long and off-putting, there's no need for that on a dating site.

Do they think we can't find out own matches or something? All their members are gonna marry people that they have nothing in common with?

I'm not on the autistic spectrum so to speak (at least not diagnosed) but I share traits. I still clicked NT anyway, as I felt it was inappropriate if I clicked the autistic spectrum one for myself.

The percentage thing doesn't really work all that well though... I have a bunch of high 90s and the few that do respond only respond once and then i never hear from them again...

I took the test 4 years ago and it said I was unmatchable. I believe that I was to go with the flow for it.

I took it again 4 years later and it matched me.

I laughed at it when I first saw it.

My highest match is my ex who I am most compatible with out of everyone I know. And another friend is pretty high up, we are quite similar people. I think the % is a good starting point. I do find that those with lower % are much more likely to be quite incompatible with me. As for eHarmony, the few matches it did give me one time didn't really seem like my type at all.

Unfortunately, a man can receive unmatched status by Not being a major misogynist. For instance, the guy that started the whole thing doesn't really approve of the fact women like to look forward to the future, and wants them to accept whatever the man in the relationship expects. So, if your answers were geared toward an even split of who makes the plans or who does what in a household, then you'll receive an unmatched status. Below, are the Top Ten issues the women have with the men (things like outright lying or taking drugs), while the guy's list entails details that are far less concrete (the woman plans ahead, and might *gasp* actually cry during an argument--for the record, I don't, but I know some women do. For that matter, so do some men, but that's not mentioned anywhere on eHarmony's lists.).
