He was a boy, she was a girl.
Can I make it anymore obvious?

Nope. I can't possibly relate to such terrible lyricism. Sk8er boi (or however it's spelled) is a laughably bad song, in my opinion.
Written by four people, it uses one of the most over-used chord progressions in pop music, and contains lyrics such as "Haven't you heard how we rock each other's world?".
"Can I make it any more obvious?" Probably not, unless they hire three more writers.

Agreed, though it was an integral part of my childhood and may be relatable to some of our members.

This. I've heard it a few times, but it didn't really approach anything I thought, and it sounded rather obnoxious.
Mainly, I was hoping the next song they played would be better.

That song is the white girl version of this:

Which I can in a small way relate to. Except back then they did want me sometimes, but I was too oblivious.

Hmm, I don't like where this thread is going ..
OP, I can relate to the song (if you are talking about my teen years).
Some others won't, and not because they aren't Avril fans.

I don't get what it is trying to say, so that is a bad style of lyricism. It completely lacks impact.

The song is for teeny-boppers who wish to regard themselves (and to be regarded by others) as "cool."

You have to listen to the song to get the meaning.

That's just bad lyrics.

Plus, apply this to anyone in the world no matter of age, colour or ethics.

Donning that garb, and fantasizing about becoming the principal chick of a boy who plays with skateboards and "slams" on his guitar, would tend to be the province of rebellious girls between the ages of 12 and 16.

The song isn't really about a skater boy~
Boy likes girl but the girl thinks the boy is a loser because he's a sk8er boi, The boy becomes a successful musician. Meanwhile the girl makes some mistakes with men & is single. She goes to his concert & I'm guessing regrets how she didn't give him a chance in back high-school & the skater boy has a girl now.
A side note about this song~ Avril married the singer/guitarist(Deryck Whibley) from the rock group Sum41 so maybe the song is about him & Avril's the girl the skater boy ended up with.

I relate to the song is the sense that few women would give me a chance & I have a girlfriend now but I don't relate to the song in the sense of being successful with life now because most women would probably still think I'm a loser.

Oh.
In that case... I'm probably no different in terms of not really being successful and girls still thinking the same that they did.
