Because the times when they work well make it worth it. No one escapes suffering so you might
as well keep trying for the relationship/anything else you really want so you get something good in your life as well. Also, the more experience of relationships you have the better you get at determining the good from the bad ie all experience is good experience in this respect as it's a learning curve.
