Who here has been in love or is in love with someone? To this day I have never fallen in love with someone, and I am just wondering how people know when they have fallen in love. What are the signs?

Yep. In my experience, it's when you get beyond the feelings of "lust" and realise you adore this person for everything that they are, and that you want them to stay in your life, in a big way, for as long as possible. It's kind of admiration, comfort and desire all at the same time.

I am currently in love with a man I met at my university. He is very intelligent (he is a chemist and does research for the university while he is a student there). He's 23 and I'm the only girlfriend he's ever had. When you love someone you love them for more than their looks; you want to take care of and nurture that person, support them in every way. You adore the tiniest things about them. Finally, while you're sexually attracted to them, sex isn't the focus of the relationship but rather the icing on the cake.

I certainly think so, but maybe I'm wrong.

To varying degrees I've loved people and been *in* love with people.

It starts as a lusting or desire, an attraction to them based on the physical and on a fondness to be in their company, I'd say love comes when you feel an intense fondness for someone, you want to protect them from any harm and you want to be around them as much as possible. Where as being *in* love is when you can't go a single day without thinking about them, there's a longing even when they are right there with you, you not only want to be around them as much as possible but feel absolutely lost without them by your side with a pain within you that only they can sooth, and doing all you can to keep them from harm.

It's really only something you can experience, I'm sure at 15 I thought I was in love with my first boyfriend...I did love him, but looking back and knowing what I do now I'm sure that what I felt was love but I was not *in* love with him. It's all varying levels of affection.

The definition for the word "love" is pretty much subjective AND circumstantial.

No one can really argue with you whether you are truly in love with someone or not if you have strong intense feelings for him anyway.

I'm unsure. If I wasn't, then it's as close as I ever will be to feeling it.

Sadly I have... twice~

One turned out to be a good choice that I didn't make any move.

Second one is more painful since I met her early this year in China.
But now I'm starting to move on (slowly lol) since it's getting nowhere.

I have only ever been "in love" once. My psychologist at the time saw it as more of a deep infatuation though.

I don't think f I've ever been in love for real. Although I hope to be someday. The idea of it seems quite nice :)

To be love, does it have to be reciprocated? Or can it be unilateral? There is so much written about unrequited love. I don't know if I have loved. I have cared deeply. Not sure if that is love. I could say I have had love moments.

But if I compare it, with the love I have for animals for example, then no, I have not had that unconditional love for anyone else all the time.

But maybe this is the wrong time to be posting about this. I feel like I am hurting so much right now, it must have been love?

I just thought I'd say that this is a lovely description of love. It made me feel feelings lol
