Getting rid of a crush by fixing him up?

I have developed an inappropriate interest in someone (who fortunately lives very far away from me) and I'm having trouble getting him off my mind. I have a single acquaintance who's about the right age, is pretty, and seems to be as gentle and intelligent as he is. Both of these people are interested in relationships, but they live 3000 miles apart. I have suggested that she "friend" him on FB and she did.

Is this meddlesome? Will I be sorry someday that I gave up on the poor wonderful guy?

I have turned down chances to meet very interesting people before because I was dating someone already and was trying to be good.

This happened to me sort of. A few years ago this guy liked me (I think he did anyway) He met me just as he was starting a new relationship. So he gave my cell phone number to his friend. He thought we would hit it off. The friend got in touch with me. We met once at a party the first guy held so we could meet, but we didn't hit it off at all.

Your friends may not even click with each other even though you think they will. Only time will tell.

you're lumping together two seperate issues.

If you have two friends who are both single, and you introduced them at a dinner party in person its not being meddlesome. And introducing them on line at a distance in a casual way is even less meddlesome.

They might click, or they might not. If not there is no harm done.
People joke about meddlesome moms setting up their kids with other meddlesome mom's kids, which IS a bit oppressive for the kids, but this would not be quite like that.

The other issue: that of wishing you were single yourself...is.... another issue.
Im not gonna touch that. But its a seperate IMHO.
