what jsut happened?

i tried to post a reply to someone and go redirected to a security page with a captcha code..is it just me?

It has happened to me on and off. Maybe something in the writing triggers Captcha now.
Best off checking in the WP board to see what's up.

a trick i learned is that you only need to enter the italicized word.

This site appears to use CloudFlare for protection against Denial of Service attacks.

When a site is being attacked, Cloudflare sometimes prompts you to enter a capatcha to prove your a human.

He may have thought he was at wp.net section

As for the captcha/cloudfare thing it used to happen way too frequently a year ago or so when the site was overcrowded.
It is summer and most people are in vacation...

Say what you will but Im going to stick with that text that used to appear before the captcha was there(wrongplanet is experiencing an unusuably high number of members....)

yeah but since the site is less crowded i dont understand why it's still happening. Not sure what your last paragraph means about sticking with the text?

I think that for me at least, there was indeed a connection between having a high volume of poeople posting to WP and the flurry of Captchas which I got recently... I just hadn't realised that the two were connected until it was explained.

For example, I have only had one Captcha today - and that was right around the time that the forum very briefly went down because of high volume.

yeah but since the site is less crowded i dont understand why it's still happening. Not sure what your last paragraph means about sticking with the text?


If Cloudflare detects computers hitting the site that have been associated with a Denial of Service attack (or CF thinks a DOS attack is occuring) it will respond by enabling the capatcha.

Ahaaaaa :idea: that would certainly make sense....
In other words, when the volume of simultaneous posts at WP is high enough that Cloudflare interprets it as a potentially dangerous DOS attack then it throws out a bunch of Captchas to try and establish whether everybody is human ; or to at least slow down the speed of posting (thus keeping itself out of the danger zone)
