it really gets on my nerves, apparently being a single man and being unhappy about it is a crime. If men like me are entitled for wanting companionship why don't we say the same thing about women who depend on relationships? A lot of these women are beyond picky and demand the top tier men and won't settle for anything less. So why are men like me evil entitled pricks for being frustrated about our single status and wanting a girl to spend time with?

Whose society says that?

Certainly, none that I am familiar with.

Nobody says you are entitled for wanting it. That's normal. People are entitled who feel like they deserve it. Guys who go around mad because other guys have girls and who when they get turned down go on about how all women are horrible because they have been turned down so many times, etc are entitled and bitter.

If a guy wants a girl he needs to go out and try to get one. If he keeps getting turned down he needs to figure out what he needs to change about himself to get one. I'd say the same to a girl who wanted a guy.

Oh, now I understand the question ...

What "society" actually "says" is that some men tend to think that they are entitled to romance and/or sex simply because they're men.

It's like people from the lower economic classes who tend to think that they are entitled to someone else's wealth just for being alive, or those people who tend to think that they are entitled to respect, trust, and/or admiration for the same reasons.

This is called "An over-reaching sense of entitlement", not "Being entitled" - the first springs from the pride, jealousy, and frustration of the "have-nots", while the latter arises from the circumstance of actually having earned something.

This is a qualitatively different case from class issues. Men OR women who feel bitterness because they think they ought to get the types of relationships other people have regardless of their personal failing or ill luck are assuming an entitlement to another person's free choice about how to spend their life. It's not something of which they've been deprived; it's a "bonus level" that some people enjoy in life and others don't. If you

Your statement about the "lower economic classes" assumes that the wealth started out as someone else's, and that you have to do something to deserve basic necessities of life. You don't have to have undue pride or jealousy to be frustrated that even though you work a full-time physically demanding job, your family can't afford health insurance, healthy food, and safe, comfortable housing, while others live in mansions while chairing boards and raking in money from dividends.

It's a question of demanding that society be justly aligned so that people have an equal opportunity to things that are basic necessities before they even have the chance to "earn" anything. (And who gets to judge what it takes to "earn" human rights and a future for your children, anyhow?)-- versus resenting the fact that other people have chosen to be in relationships with each other and not with you. IMO people who classify the world's resources as "theirs" are the ones with an entitlement complex.

On the same note as my above post, "work[ing] to become attractive to beautiful women" is a pretty inadequate way to sum up what it takes to find a relationship. Another person choosing to be with you, whom you also choose, is not an earned payout with a set of job duties.

That may (or may not) be true, but it isn't easy to condense the entire morphology of male jealousy into 24 words or less.

Believe it or not, it does take effort for a man to be attractive - for a man to be something other than a hopeless lardball living on a disability payout in his mother's basement takes both initiative and effort. In other words, it takes work.

The reward for this work is romance, love, and/or copulatory activity.

That's life.

That "nobody is entitled" thing is usually just the self-righteous internet comments of somebody that's already had a fair amount of success in this area conveniently. :?

I don't think being envious or bitter makes a person have a sense of entitlement. In that case everyone that is envious or bitter or just plain fedup of not making any progress has a sense of entitlement too. I'm just saying I don't think entitlement can be as simple as "I want that and I'm fedup of not having it" so it's a sense of entitlement. If someones frustration (which is literally thoughts and feelings) doesn't bother anyone I don't see a problem.

Nope, I'm really broke and struggling financially. While I would really like to have the money that some people have at this time of their lives, and the peace of mind that goes with it, I know I'm not entitled to it.

Those who think they are entitled to romance and a relationship but don't have one are usually people who don't put forth much effort towards getting one or who refuse to believe they should change anything about themselves to get one, even after being shot down time after time.

I was just telling the OP who I usually see directly saying what he's talking about. Nobody being entitled to anything obviously makes sense. But then again most NTs in real-life act like it's the weirdest thing they've ever heard if somebody is still a virgin past their early-20s or so, which contradicts their internet comments.

Or people who are so sick of being called horrible people because we won't date a guy. I work hard, I help people when I can, but because I won't date a guy he makes it his mission to make me feel bad about myself?

Whatever.
