Is there anything to this aphorism?

Discuss.

No.

Nothing to discuss, other than perhaps the definition of "aphorism". This isn't one.

It's incomplete. Both men and women choose. Both men and women compete.

Even if you remove women who ask men out from the equation, both genders choose and compete in equal measure.

Women choose which men's overtures they will respond to and compete with other women to be more sought after by men (with the exception of women who don't try to compete and just do their own thing- likely many women of WP among others).

Men compete with other men to have their overtures responded to by women and they choose which women they will make overtures to. (With the exception of men who don't compete with other men because they have realized that the women most likely to compatible with them are off the radar of so many other men. It's a few men of WP among others and quite often the men who are more succesful with women or a woman.)

The bottom line is that everybody chooses (who indiscriminately tries to pair up with literally anyone else with no parameters whatsoever?) even if what they choose is to stop trying altogether. How much you have to compete or if you compete at all depends entirely on who you choose. This applies to both genders.

There are people who claim to have no parameters and willing to accept anyone who would have them but if you ask further you find they have parameters taken so much for granted that they weren't even registering as parameters. Example: age. Not many people would say yes to somebody elderly unless they are elderly themselves. That's a parameter so taken for granted it's invisible. But it's still a parameter. Single elderly hook up with each other all the time- they have increasing rates of STDs because of this- being so used to condoms strictly for prevention of pregnancy which is irrelevent to them.

There are men who are crushed on by many women too. Some men are just as good with ladies because they have what the previous responses pointed out, a shared admiration for each other. The pop culture dipiction is of course the loner hotstuff lady getting pined over by men, but who hasn't overheard young women giggling over a topic like the quarter back of the school football team?

It can't truly be shown to be less or more for either gender.

I say may the jerkiest man win, and the nicest guy finish last.
Am I doing this right?

Those are quite possibly the weirdest birds I've ever seen.

Also... I choose who I will come onto. I do not choose people that compete for me, however. Nor will I compete with other females. If the person wants me, they will respond to my advances.

What sort of advances do you deploy?
