So I just got back from Venice with my boyfriend and am feeling pretty down and dissapointed.

We were there for 4 days and I had a feelING my boyfriend was going to propose. But on the day he had planned it (I found out later the next day) I developed a severe ear infection and had to go to the osepedale for painkillers and antibiotics.

I found out later that when we were there was when the proposal was supposed to happen. He had a cake and bouquet specially made and even got a band to learn our song.

I am absolutely devastated, I always dreamed of being proposed to in venice.

To make matters worse after the flight home my feet swelled up and get that checked out. Now I'm not allowed to walk and am still in a lot of pain aswell as just feeling s**t

The reason I'm posting it here is cause I don't know what to do next. Im not very good with facial expressions and am worried I might look disappointed when he actually proposes.

I just keep thinking about how perfect it would have been and how fustrated I'm am that I ruined his moment.

You need to wear an anti-voodoo charm.

Alliekit, I wish all this didn't happen in Venice.

But it did. And it's not a harbinger of things to come.

But it's apparent that he loves you and digs you.

I only wish he knew how to play the mandolin :D

Please get better soon.

I'm sure you will be happy when he proposes, and cry those happy tears

You are not alone. Both of my best friends were ill when their boyfriends proposed. Both of them had to be dragged out of the house with bad cold, taken to a scenic, beautiful place they couldn't be bothered going to and they weren't really with it and didn't realise what was actually happening.

So are you engaged or not? I don't understand. He wants to marry you. What else is there to do? You've both agreed on it already it seems.

You know what. Maybe be happy that someone actually loves you and don't get hung up on stupid stuff like the location.

SOMEONE ACTUALLY LOVES YOU

21's not so bad.

My cousin started dating his girlfriend when they were 14.

About 2 years ago, at age 24, he proposed.

Quite beautiful just how long and strong they were and still are, while so many others in this world can barely meet someone they can last a few months with, let alone over a decade now. Such is life.

Yeah - the ideal scenario for the proposal was ruined, and not the relationship.
There will be other moments - like that restaurant you like, or during a concert. Something at least!

Get well soon.

I notice this pattern:

WP girls either get married very young, or very late (or never do).

Couldn't agree more. Over-the-top gestures are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Just enjoy the fact you actually have a caring boyfriend and you went out and had fun with him. I could only dream of having someone actually care about me, stuff proposals and expensive wedding ceremonies and whatnot.

I think that trying to over-romanticize relationships is more likely to bring you down than raise you up. Best to focus on the simple things.

You can do a proposal while wearing VR set to some Venice visual.

Or just buy another trip to Venise.

I've heard that Italy's economy is about to collapse....so it may get cheap soon.

I'm sorry your moment was ruined.

I'm not sure you have to do anything next. Things don't always go to plan, and in a partnership you need to be there to support each other in these moments. It's definitely okay to be upset, but you shouldn't be worried about ruing his moment, as I am sure he is only disappointed with the situation and not you.

Perfect is overrated, often the things that don't go to plan are the ones that are more fondly remembered. You will probably both look back at this one day and laugh.

You know that he wants to ask you to marry him, that is a good place to be. Will you really be disappointed the man you love is proposing to you? And I am sure he would plan something else, and not just present you a ring in a cheese burger or do it VIA text message. If he put a lot of thought into it the first time, chances are he will again.

I hope you feel better soon.

That's very disappointing and I can understand that you are upset about it. However these things are part of life, and how romantic and wonderful if it does not deter him from wanting to marry you. It means he is a man of good character and integrity.

I'm very sorry for it, but you should not worry excessively. In the end these things aren't really important. How long have you been together, if I can ask?
I sort of envy you peole who can travel so easily, some girl I know online wants to meet me but I am terrified to travel alone. I think I will try though, it is not healty to give in to such fears.
