I always hear that to meet people I need to go 'out'. But no one can tell me where. So I want to know where did you meet? Maybe you can tell us where this mystical land of 'out' lays.

I met my husband while I was in the downtown area of my city. Apparently he was waiting to meet a friend of mine, whom I was also there waiting for. He often showed up at the same places I frequented. We started talking more each time, and eventually I asked him upfront if he was interested in me as a girlfriend or not.

It all really happened by chance. Before I met him, I wasn't at all looking for a significant other. Neither was he.

I once met a girl when I was driving a taxi.

I once met a guy at a gay meeting. I asked everyone for a ride home and he volunteered.

I once met another guy who was a friend of a friend.

Besides going out to casual venues, there are also more structured activities like dramatic clubs, walking clubs, even social or environmental action groups and church groups (if you are that way inclined). These groups bring together people who are interested in the same activities or projects, so you can work together with other people whio might be "relationship prospects" and you have a ready source of conversational material (the activity you are both doing).

My earliest memory of my wife was asking her to dance at a church dance. To my surprise she said "yes" (I was used to girls giggling and holding back at church and school dances). At one stage we were boarding in the same house which meant that we got to spend time doing ordinary domestic chores together (washing and drying dishes, etc). It was during one of those mundane activities that she asked if she could come with me on a visit to my family in another city. Been married over 30 years now with two grown up children.

The big issue for me was being too needy and emotionally desperate. I had to learn to let go of the relationship before I could safely take part in it. I don't know how to engineer that, it just happend painfully and slowly over a three year period before we started going out together. I would have been too possessive if that hadn't happened.

at work. I asked him what kind of movie he liked. turned out to be the same as me. asked him to a movie. he said, "how 'bout coffee?" a few months later, I reminded him we hadn't yet gone for coffee. we did, and from then on, he did the asking.

5. A dorm party

6. In patient drug rehab

7. OKCupid and Craigslist
