I was just thinking about how several people here have posted that they really have no idea how attractive they look to others. It's hard to get honest opinions about that. We aspies tend to be a candid bunch, so WP members' opinions could be interesting - but not everyone wants others to know what they look like. It occurred to me that there's a simple way to do this anonymously:

Just upload your photos to an image host, email me the links and I will post them on your behalf. Even I will have no way of knowing who you are (you can email anonymously). The thread will be in Members' Only Discussion, which is not crawl-able by search engines, so your photo won't come up when someone searches Google Images for "asperger's", either. :)

I haven't created an email address for this yet, I just want to see first whether anyone thinks this is a worthwhile idea. Please vote in the poll.

google image search asked me to tell you Nice Try

..because what is to stop anyone downloading the image to their computer and then uploading to image shack and doing to google image search? Putting something in Members Only forum is a deterrent for accidental search engine finds, not for people purposefully looking to find out more about someone.

Nice try at what?

Obviously it's still up to you to make sure you cannot be identified from the image in other ways, for example:

- Don't use an image that's already on the net, because yes, people can search by that image. Use a different photo. (You can search by it yourself first to see if anything comes up.)
- Make sure you're not wearing a name tag in the photo ;)
- Strip metadata from it (or use a hosting service that does this)
- If you've already shared it with some WP members you have to trust them not to reveal it's you. (Though even if they did, how would others know whether they really know it's you or are just speculating or joking?)

In the digital age where Social media companies are always trying to make money off of you and undermine your right to privacy, why ask people for their photos?

So, while the responses to this post have been negative (and unclear) 6 people did vote "Yes" and 4 voted "Maybe", so I decided to give it a go. The thread is up in Members' Only: https://www.wrongplanet.net/postt249265.html I've tried to be clear on what I'm offering and have also edited the title of this thread slightly to better reflect this.

I am not asking anyone for anything.

There are plenty of websites for this purpose.

The only decent photos I have of myself already litter the internet. I am unable to take a decent photo of myself, even with a tripod and a timer, so all the not-horribly-unflattering photos are candids taken by other people. And there are so few of them, I post them everywhere! LOL

Meh. When I get ready to date again, I'll post up my dating site profile somehere here and ask for critique. Until then, I don't think it's a BAD idea, I'm just not ready to participate yet. :)

Nah, 4chan would be passing them around within minutes. If not what remains of Encyclopedia Dramatica.
