I remember that I gave a bag of candy to a girl I liked in 4th grade, more like giving a chocolate today since I'm older, other than that I don't know less than asking for a visit to the cinema, a restaurant/cafe etc.

I don't acknowledge Valentine's Day, it's a Greeting Card Holiday, manufactured to guilt people into buying garbage they don't need or want. It only exists in advertising campaigns and chick flicks.

It's very normal to feel that way.

Being single, I used to hate Valentine's Day; but now, it's just another day. I still get depressed sometimes when I see two lovers walk by with hand in hand, as I have never been in love and I'm 40. I also do feel happy for them though. Maybe someday, I too can feel something similar to what those two lovers feel. Still, happy Valentines day to all.

OK, think about what you're going to ask and phrase it so there can't be a yes/no answer. So, instead of asking her if she'd like to see a movie over the weekend turn up with the movie schedule from the paper and ask her to pick a movie that you both might like.

And yes, Valentine's Day is very over rated. According to the official biography of the Diocese of Terni, Bishop Valentine was visiting Rome and Emperor Claudius took a liking to him until he tried to lead Claudius to Jesus. At this point Claudius refused and condemned him to death, commanding that he either renounce his faith or he would be beaten with clubs, and beheaded. St Valentine refused and Claudius' command was executed outside the Flaminian Gate in Rome
