I don't know if that's the correct term or not, but often, I'll see a female and I'd want to talk to her, but because I can't tell how old she is, I don't. There are many, many people that look like they can be anywhere from 18 to 27ish. I'm 35 so I don't want to start talking to her, decide I'm really interested in her to find out later she's only 19 or something like that.

I think 18-27 is a really difficult age group to work out. I guess you just have to talk to them and find out how old they are. What's wrong with finding someone you connect with and then discovering they are younger than you thought. Surely the important thing is the connection not the age?

If you live in the USA, an easy way to find out if she's over 21 is to invite her to a bar, or ask her what her favorite bars are.

It can be difficult to pick up on a girl's age in the range of 18-30 I will give you that.

Yes, I am not at all good at distinguishing adult ages within the under-30 crowd.

I would not say I'm completely age blind, but I do have this problem. I would drop the lower limit down a bit for some individuals. Example, there are a few women out there where its hard to tell if they are 13 or 26.

I think I have an easier time guessing a man's age because I am one myself, and there is a familiarity factor there.

I've noticed that the younger crowd is starting to look older than their age and the older crowd is looking younger than their age. At least that's what I've noticed. That creates uncertainty in me when figuring out age.

A lot of people just look old for their age and it's really annoying, because it is hard to pick out in a crowd how old the girl I might walk up and start talking to is.

And what makes it worse is that I'm told I look like I'm 15-17 years old, so then there's the anxiety that she won't take me seriously if she is actually my age.

Anyway, there's been a couple of times where I will start a conversation with some girl I'm interested in, only I don't really flirt just yet, I'm just super friendly and we keep talking and eventually (about 1-3 minutes into the conversation) I'll ask where she goes to school.
Most girls wind up being juniors and seniors in High school.

Last year when I was 21 and working at pizza hut as a delivery driver, this girl I worked with was hitting on me like crazy and trying to get me to go out with her. I was flattered and really did want to as she was pretty cute but I was in a relationship at the time so I wasn't interested. I thought she was like my age, 20-23 years old - Well, I come to find out from another worker that she's actually 17! Thank God I dodged that bullet. 8O

Lots of guys around my age are still doing the baggy-clothing thing which started back in high school. That's something strongly associated with teenagers. Blatantly white-guys look kinda stupid dressing that way regardless of age in my opinion though.

Yeah really, well it's mostly because the law goes against nature.
I'm seriously considering moving to a state where 16 is legal. Out here, they're thinking of raising the adult age to 21.
That would be a huge catastrophe.

I'm lucky if I guess 5 years away from their actual age.

Another thing I am terrible at: knowing when someone is drunk. I don't think I've ever been able to pick out who is drunk like other people seem to have no issue with; the person has to be stumbling over their own legs for me to notice.

Where I live, 16 is the legal age of consent, though I wouldn't really consider dating a girl younger than 17, mainly due to maturity issues. 18 would be preferable though, as I would be able to take her out for drinks, and legally not have any parents breathing down my neck.

I remember the one time I went to 'camp' (outward bound if you know it)

I was 16, and in the late evening when all the kids were busy socialising before being forced into their bunkhouses a girl got talking to me, telling me how she had seen me complete one of the difficult physical challenges and her group were very much impressed. This coming from someone a similar age, I would probably consider flirting, coming from an older person I would assume as a parenting style pat on the back of encouragement.

Problem is, I could absolutely not tell how old she was, and therefore whether she was either a kid on camp, or an instructor! She could have been anywhere between 13 and 30, I had NO IDEA. I settled on the latter, which was a big mistake and it freaked her out somewhat.

I'd still feel like a dirty old man if I was dating a 21 year old. :)

YES!! !

Me too

I once asked a woman out on a date thinking that she was about my age (early 40's at the time) and was quite surprised to find that she was 51.
