Yes I know, I should be happy. There's a girl who has (well: appears to have, but even though I'm not that good at reading that kind of language she's quite obvious about it) a crush on me which will happen to me once a decade or so and I should appreciate that. And I definitely would and definitely would return her feelings, but... turns out she's seventeen. I'm not exactly mature myself and she's way more experienced sexually than I am but she's still seventeen and it shows. I would always approve of such a romance if I was friends with one or both but when it comes to myself... Sometimes I think I'm an old man closing in on 84 long before I turn 30 (my birth certificate states I'm actually 24) and my body feels like it had the density of gold. And then she comes along with her youthfulness and carefree attitude and it's like we're separated by ages and it doesn't feel right.
Yet I didn't do a particularly good job at pretending I didn't notice and was flirting back a little and well now I don't know if and how I should turn her down without hurting her and ruining our friendship.

First of all, check to see what your area's age of consent is. In the U.S., it is usually between 16-18, depending on the state. In other places, such as the UK, it's 16 nationwide.

Second, 17 is rather immature, legal or not.

Age of consent is 16 in Germany, but that's not what disturbs me.

It's more the perceived age difference.

I'm not sure of what the question is exactly. As for dating minors...I find them incredibly immature despite what they appear or claim to be, I'm 27 and my ex was 19, I almost never date with that large of an age gap but I gave her the benefit of the doubt, much to my suspicions, this was a mistake. Now I make it a rule never do date anyone younger than 24 and don't '@#$! where you eat'. Which as to say, don't pick up from places you attend/frequent, whether it be at college, school, work etc.

Age and time is just a number, unless the law says otherwise. Don't fish off the company pier. Sounds like she just wants to have fun, and that can mean alot of things.

I get your point and if you just wanted to get it on with a girl have some 'fun' that shouldn't be a problem, but the real problem comes down to trying to have a relationship with them.

9 times outta' 10 a huge age difference gap like that can make lots of situations awkward.
There are, few exceptions out there. I've known women 7 years younger than myself act more mature. They do exist, but you're single right now. Go for it. (its legal in your country/state, so you're good)
