Do you think being in love feels a lot like sadness?

I was thinking earlier about how the feeling of being in love kind of feels like sadness. Its like being in love is the cousin of sadness. It has the same heavyness to it that makes you want to sigh and it definitely has a melancholic air to it. I think being in love is warm, heavy and yet has movement to it, but sadness is cold, heavy and stiff. What do you think? Do you agree or do you have no idea what i'm going on about... because I don't think I do completely either!

Nice analysis! I find love sad when you cant be around that person. When you are with the person however there is an overwhelming feel of joy. Thats just my take on it though..

Love means sharing any emotions. That said, in my situation it's on me to overcome my sadness such that I can build trust and hold people close as they work through sadness at their own pace. Of course it weighs on me to know the cycles of sadness in anyone's life, but it's a great source of joy to know how simply I can be of help. Love is a natural response to sadness and we're all immersed therein.

I've felt that way about girls since I was about 9 or so.

What you describe sounds like something we used to call 'love sick'.

But I think love can be felt in a variety of ways depending on circumstances, and that sad-like feeling is just one of many shades.

I've felt that sort of sensation where "love" is concerned. Yet, I've also felt as if I'd fly off at any moment, or like I could actually move a mountain if I felt like doing so right then, also because of "love."
For me, I know these feelings are related to various stages in a relationship (the "sad" feeling typically relating to when I just begin to hold feelings or realize they're unrequited); I just hope that I don't feel the hollow numbness I've felt at a relationship's end ever again.

I don't think I've ever been in love and not had it end with my wanting to take pop some Ambien, read a Sylvia Plath book, and take a bath with my toaster. I'm not sure if love and sadness are the same, but they are definitely sides of the same coin as far as my life is concerned.

Admittedly I've never been in love, but surely that's only how it would feel if it was unrequited or wasn't working out for some reason? I'm certainly feeling that way about a guy right now who's already in a relationship (not that I'm actually in love with him--I just have really strong feelings for him).
