I've noticed something kind of strange on OkCupid and wanted to see if anyone else experiences this. Basically, about once every week or two, I'll get a message from someone who is completely on the other side of the world. It seems to mainly come from the Oceanic countries like Malaysia and Indonesia, but I've had some from Albania, Lebanon, India...you name it. What makes this seem so strange to me is that most of the time, I don't have a terribly high match percentage with them, and we often don't seem to have that much in common. It makes me wonder how on earth they even come across my profile! I've responded to a few and basically asked them, but they sidestepped the question.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Ignore them, no matter how genuine they sound.

Those are Visa-diggers.

You are probably right. Either that, or scammers.

OkCupid, is that some kind of online dating site or the username of someone on the site? Either way, they are of no value to me.

Depends on what they say. Sometimes people are just bored or curious about other members and want to exchange a few messages. Not everyone who contacts you legitimately necessarily wants to have a relationship with you.

I think they may want a Visa.

Yeah, it happens to me. I delete the message straight away without even opening their profile or anything, same as the "hey" messages etc. They are like junk mail.

I had one good conversation. Went down the drain. Then the profiles get really wacked. Then you see gay females and other genders messaging other bull to other members. Its really just a social site with looking down on profiles. Oh what do we have here. Thanks but no thanks, moving on.

I had a few when I re-tried attempting to have relationships with the crazy people last year.
One of them said she was after somebody local and so I replied to say, "I hardly consider 7508 miles to be local", she said, "I was only trying to be friendly, no need to be rude".
