Would it be smothering if I got her a gift?

I'm 16, and a guy, and there's a 13 year old girl at my Turkish cultural center who I like.... she just moved to the United States from Turkey, and I think she likes me, but I'm not sure.... I was hoping I could get her a gift, like a piece of chocolate, or something.... would that be smothering? i barely know her...
