Greetings,

I am proud to announce that Heather and I are a newlywed couple, both of whom are on the spectrum. Here is our story.

When I embarked on my very first solo cruise on 25 July 2015 aboard the Norwegian Getaway, all I wanted to do was to celebrate my 50th birthday in a very special way. Within a matter of a few short hours of boarding the Getaway, during an informal gathering of a few of my fellow solo travelers in the Studio Lounge, I met a sweet Southern belle named Heather. It turns out Heather is also on the spectrum. How often do you find two aspies meeting in the wild? Once we met in the Studio Lounge, we totally hit it off. We became so engrossed in conversation with each other that we completely missed the Sailaway Party above. After our first dinner date in the Garden Café that evening, I took her up to the Freestyle Sun Deck on Deck 18. It was there, under a starry sky on a sultry night at sea, that we shared our first kiss at the front of the ship in accordance with maritime tradition. Since that fateful first night, with the exception of a couple of separately booked shore excursions, Heather and I were practically inseparable...and we still are.

Upon learning that her birthday is two days ahead of mine, we celebrated our respective birthdays together with two very romantic dinners at the Taste, one of the complimentary restaurants on board, complete with an ocean view table which set the perfect atmosphere. Returning to our respective cabins only to find birthday decorations on the wall and various treats on our beds was certainly an unforgettable experience. What a 50th birthday celebration it was!

To make a long story short, Heather and I have married in our new home town of Gainesville, Florida on 8 January 2016, and have recently converted our reservations for two separate Studio cabins to a Spa Mini-Suite for what is now our Honeymoon Cruise aboard the Norwegian Escape for the sailing on 23 July 2016. At the time of my very first cruise aboard the Norwegian Epic during Christmas 2013 with my family, I was resigned to the cruise being a once in a lifetime experience. Having met my wife aboard the Getaway, however, I made a promise to us that we would take a cruise every year. This is one promise that I am determined to keep.

We look forward to the opportunity to meet with other couples (dating, engaged, married) who are both on the spectrum like we are for the purposes of fun, friendship, fellowship, and mutual support. We are a very rare breed.
