Why would it break your heart?

If you miss someone a lot why would it break your heart if that person you missed did not give you a second thought?

Because if you miss someone like that there is a good chance you care deeply for them, if they lead you on to think its mutual and then proceed not to give you a second thought then its emotionally painful. Seems rather obvious to me, but there it is.

How long does it take to stop missing someone?
