Just being courteous?

I was saying to my dad how I would find it offensive when in social settings in the past like a bar some of my male associates tell me to give up my seat for a woman or shove me out of the way to let women past.

My dad then said to me "well some of you friends are just being courteous to the fairer sex"


Do you think my dad makes a point? My beliefs are quite unique because I believe that men and women should be treated with equal respect in society.
