Losing ability to love?

"Why can't you love me like I love you?" is something I heard from my former friend with benefits; and I did not know how to answer.
I did fall in love before, even when I was virgin, in form of strong crushes mostly and one relationship that didn't last
more than few months (she ended it the moment she found out I am atheist), but that was like a couple if years ago.

Now I am not having any crush feeling nor even any love feeling is being developed with the casual flings; I still may find a girl attractive and wanting to know at times - but that's it, nothing more than that- as if I have lost the ability to fall in love? It had been so long I haven't feel anything resembling to this feeling I had before, what could be that? Is there such a thing?

"Why can't you love me like I love you?" sounds like the kind of manipulative question that's just asking for an answer like, "Because you're not up to snuff. We're not comparable by any stretch of the imagination. Would you give a s**t about any feelings a cockroach might have towards you? Well, that's exactly how much your feelings matter to me". It's certainly what I'd expect to hear if I asked a crush that question, assuming she brought herself to dignify it with an answer at all. Fortunately, it's never occurred to me to actually do it.

What do you mean by 'love'? What does it mean for you to love someone?

Perhaps you are, so far, only able to love that which is unattainable?

The primary desire is to go on desiring. A desire satisfied can be a melancholy thing.
