Why is it in society a short man will not get the same level of respect as short woman?

Oh, they get the same level of respect, alright. What they don't get is the same level of interest - never confuse interest with respect.

Also, a woman of the same height as a "short" man is likely to be of "average" height for a woman.

As a tall, very lanky guy, with a noticable stoop from being self-conscious about it as a kid, I don't find I get any more respect or interest than guys shorter than me.

I wonder whether (generalising in the extreme!) it is more the case that taller people might grow up with a little more self-confidence than shorter people. Confidence, or at least giving the impression of it, seems to correlate more with romantic success than physical features, in my experience.
