Have you used pickup artist techniques/have they worked?

Hello, I'm a writer for Vice.com and I'm looking for stories about men or women on the spectrum who've employed the use of PUA techniques to assist them socially or romantically! Are you familiar with the "game?" Have you applied the principles to your own life, and if so, have you found that they've worked or helped at all? I'd love to interview you.

I've written about pickup artists for Vice before, if you're interested, but it won't let me post a link so just google "lola blanc" and "pickup artists."

This would be a sympathetic piece that would attempt to demonstrate why pickup can actually be useful or helpful with those who experience social challenges. Please let me know!

Have you asked permission to do this? That is the accepted protocol when people ask for research or contrition to articles.

PUA wannabes occasionally trawl this place. When you look at their actual success rate, you just find they haven't achieved much in term of happiness, and spend a s**t load of money in the process.

I found it funny that one guy came on the forum, singing the virtues of PUA. He hadn't achieved anything very much, from this activity. Yet he was going on like it was the best thing since sliced bread.

PUA techniques can be summed up in one word confidence, the rest is mostly fluff. Yes there is some gamesmanship and communication techniques. However that can be taught without being such a douche in the process. It is really little to do with "pick up".

For the most part the objectives on PUA and people on this forum are totally different.

PUAs when you scratch the surface haven't really got a lot going other than trying to create a cult of personality around themselves, and it becomes a necessity to fuel this keep up the facade.

I think find they not very are much liked here. Views rage from them being con artists, to slime balls. It is a rare occurrence here to find a supporter.

You are more likely to find them on the PUA forums.

Um. I employ social skills. One thing that irritates me greatly is that people think social skills are somehow unlearnable, which is why they resort to PUA which is a manipulative and scummy derivative of social skills. It's absolutely learnable. Boils down to simple, actionable steps. I've aced dates. I've aced interviews. You don't even have to be a Casanova, because so many people, even NTs do simple things wrong; it's not hard to stand out. (Because most people's social skills are rough- they are intuitive instead of rigorous because they picked it up along the way- the same reason a lot of native speakers get grammar wrong and cannot explain it to you) The thing is most people I know don't learn it, even NTs. For most people social skills are learned in early childhood. I understand we may be slower on that aspect. I don't think most people learn it consciously. It's absolutely learnable. There are plenty of books on it. Just your run of the mill non-PUA dating book is FULL of great tips; and I've read like 10? I was so sick of being bad at socializing I made social skills a special interest of mine.

Put that together with books on negotiation, books on charisma (charisma, contrary to popular opinion, is also a spectrum. It's not binary have/have not!), books on body language and you're golden. go for the gross, crude movements. Depersonalize the interaction. I have a very sensitive ear and can hear the changes in pitch. If I'm trying to determine if someone is raising their voice, I first depersonalize the interaction then analyze the sound objectively. Or another example, if reading facial expressions is difficult it's certainly easy to tell which way someone is leaning when they talk to you. Leaning towards you? It means one thing. Leaning away? A different thing entirely. Compile a dictionary of that in your head. If finer details are hard then go for gross movements like these. Make a cheat sheets. Make flash cards. Test yourself on your theoretical knowledge then devise exercises for yourself. For example, compliment one person a day. One of the advantages of this obsessiveness is that whatever I choose to learn I give it 110%.

Nobody needs PUA if you've got social skills.

While the PUA seminar in your article doesn't seem like the most awful thing I've ever read about, you should know that promoting PUA as some sort of autism therapy is incredibly irresponsible. Look through this forum sometime, there's too much misery and misogyny here as there is.

If you want to do autistic people a favour, write up a profile of me that makes me sound like the coolest and most attractive single man on the face of the planet, and include within it an email address through which easily-impressed women can contact me.

Or do a piece on sexual frustration and misreading flirting cues. That makes autistic people seem both sympathetic and sexually appealing. And don't forget to mention the gay or trans ones either.

A holistic look at lifestyle might be more effective than focusing on tactics made for neuro typicals

PUA is rape culture.

Pick-up artistry is to rape what con-artistry is to burglary. Yet for some inexplicable reason, only three of those things are illegal. You're a writer for Vice? Okay, here's something you should write about. Here's a story about a pick-up artist being treated like the irredeemable sleaze-bucket that he is.

Also a while back I asked you about slavery in the doctrine and you said it was worthy of another thread, even though it was more relevant to that discussion than this is. I would still be interested in hearing your views.

On balance there is some rape and slavery culture in the old testament too. Both are wrong.

No and I have no intention to. I prefer authentic communication, not being fake. Pickup lines are cringey anyway.
