We live 4 hours apart and he is always breaking it off because of the distance. We've known each other for 6 years now .He misses me when we are apart then we get back together it won't be long before he runs away again ..blaming it on the distance. We haven't seen each other in person for nearly 3 years now. We made plans to meet but it never ends up happening...They keep falling through due to schedule confliction but this time he simply didn't follow through. He told me that maybe we will have something in the future one his life is better balanced

Well if it were me I'd probably break it off for good, doesn't seem like they're very serious about actually having a relationship.

4 hours is NOT that much distance. My girlfriend lives in Vermont & I lived in Louisiana till I moved in with her. We saw each other 3x in a 6month period & I traveled two days by greyhound each way. He'd find a way to see you if he wanted to & it would NOT be that complicated sense it's only 4 hours apart. It's best to move on sense he's not very interested. It's quite possible he's a catfish if you haven't seen him at all.

Yeah, 4 hours distance isn't that far at all. If he can't make the effort in 3 years to travel that distance then something is very wrong. Suspicious behavior like that makes me wonder if he isn't being completely honest with you. I don't know the whole store though so I can only make a guess from my own experiences.

Not a fan of LDRs. Not saying you can't or shouldn't, just that they aren't easy. If you insist on keeping this going, inform him that you're not comfortable keeping life on hold while he finds "balance." String him along if you feel the need, but go ahead and start seeing other people. If this guy is even real, he's probably "balancing" his life with someone else.

We have known each other for 6 years now..and we met several time in the first few years--so I know he isn't a cat fish.He hasn't made an effort to see me in the last few years which makes question if he has any intention of seeing me at all

I'm sorry to say but if it has been a few years since you last saw each other he probably doesn't have any intention of doing so. I don't see how anyones life could be that busy that they couldn't travel 4 hours some time in that 3 year period to visit them if they've been dating, even if it has been on and off. Even if someone was poor they could come up with enough money to do so in that time. I think a greyhound bus to go that far is about $60. If you want to really figure out what is going on how about just going there yourself randomly without telling him. If he's happy to see you then great, if he acts suspicious then you know something is wrong. $60 for a bus ticket roundtrip is not much to sacrifice for peace of mind, better than wasting your time if he isn't being sincere.
